Ultimátum del primer ministro, Benjamín Netanyahu, dio al ministro de Defensa, Benny Gantz, para la anexión de las partes de Judea y Samaria (Cisjordania). De lo contrario empujará al país a nuevas elecciones.
Gantz lidera junto al ministro de Exteriores, Gabi Ashkenazi, el partido Azul y Blanco. Es el el principal socio del gobierno de coalición, encabezado por el Likud de Netanyahu.

De acuerdo con el pacto de coalición del 17 de marzo pasado, al actual gobierno de unidad, Netanyahu puede elevar a votación a partir del 1 de julio en el Gabinete o en la Knéset (Parlamento) sus planes para extender la soberanía israelí al 30 por ciento de la disputada Cisjordania.
Sin embargo, la Administración Trump ha indicado que daría luz verde al plan de anexión solamente si obtiene el consenso del gobierno de unidad. Es decir, si el plan consigue el apoyo del principal socio de la coalición, el partido Azul y Blanco, liderado por Gantz y Ashkenazi, quienes no han exteriorizado ningún entusiasmo por una anexión unilateral de gran envergadura.
Además, la semana pasada el ministro del Interior, Aryeh Deri, que dirige el partido ultraortodoxo sefaradí Shas, ha dicho que una medida como la anexión requiere el apoyo de Gantz, Ashkenazi y el resto de los miembros de Azul y Blanco.
Sin el apoyo del ministro Deri y su partido en el gobierno, Netanyahu carecería de la mayoría necesaria para hacer aprobar el plan.
La semana pasada, Netanyahu y Gantz mantuvieron largas reuniones para discutir varios escenarios posibles sobre el plan de anexión.
