La ministra de Salud, Yuli Edelstein, y la ministra de Transporte, Miri Regev, acordaron el miércoles permitir que el aeropuerto Ben-Gurion reabriera el jueves a la medianoche. Viernes 16 de Octubre a la 0 hora comenzarán a volar los aviones nuevamente.

Mientras tanto, se espera que una reunión de funcionarios del Ministerio de Transporte con el fiscal general confirme la reapertura.

En un video en Facebook, el primer ministro Benjamin Netanyahu confirmó la apertura de los cielos de Israel al tráfico aéreo.  «Abriré los cielos y apoyaré la apertura del aeropuerto de acuerdo con lo que me dijeron los expertos, que no hay riesgo para la salud». Que hay seguridad para las personas que viajan directamente al aeropuerto y lo dejan al regresar a Israel «.

Desde el comienzo del cierre, solo se permitió volar a los pasajeros que compraron un billete antes de que el cierre entrara en vigor.

El fiscal general dijo que el cierre continuado del aeropuerto era problemático. Las aerolíneas amenazaban con demandas por los daños que les había causado el cierre. De acuerdo con las pautas del Ministerio de Salud, ahora hay 31 países que se definen como verdes. Los pasajeros no están obligados a estar en 14 días de cuarentena a su regreso a Israel.
No todos los países, incluso aquellos definidos en Israel como verdes, permiten que los israelíes entren en ellos. Los viajeros deben verificar las pautas antes de partir. Además, hay países donde los israelíes se enfrentarán al aislamiento en ambos extremos del viaje y un puñado de destinos donde los israelíes no tendrán que aislarse cuando vayan o vayan.
