Es imposible de explicar el atentado contra la revista “Charlie Hebdo” en París. La violencia fundamentalista es la sinrazón por antonomasia. ¿Cómo alguien puede justificar matar 12 personas y herir otras 20 por difundir caricaturas satíricas?

Ese es el gran desafío que enfrentan hoy los Gobiernos y los pueblos musulmanes, que suman más de 1000 millones de personas de los cuales una ínfima minoría ejerce su representación planetaria desde posiciones que nada tienen que ver con el Corán o que tienen que interpretarse a la luz de los tiempos actuales.

Muchos creímos que la “Primavera Árabe” del 2009 al 2011 sería imparable de la mano de las redes sociales y la movilización de estudiantes y mujeres que reclamaban el fin de la censura y la igualdad de género. Con la excepción de Túnez, casi todo volvió a foja cero e, incluso, empeoró.

Hay países que tienen una responsabilidad central: Turquía, Egipto, Pakistán y Arabia Saudita. Ellos son los que marcaran los eventos futuros, incluyendo el comportamiento de sus connacionales que viven por millones en Europa.

Un 20% de la población europea se expresa hoy a través de partidos de extrema derecha que tienen como eje de sus programas la xenofobia, con énfasis en el odio a árabes y judíos.

Los americanos debemos velar porque el fanatismo (que lo sufrimos) no vuelva a instalarse en nuestro continente. La reconciliación entre norteamericanos y cubanos es un buen paso en ese sentido que deberá ser consolidado con una lucha sin cuartel contra la pobreza y la exclusión.

Hoy el mundo depende más de lo que pasa en lo que eran sus márgenes –China, India, Brasil, México, Indonesia- que del propio centro histórico –EE.UU. y Europa.

Asumamos en plenitud nuestra responsabilidad de contribuir a que tanto el fanatismo como la violencia sean derrotados por el triunfo pleno de la condición humana.
