La aspirina podría proteger contra COVID-19, según estudio israelí

Científicos israelíes afirman que la aspirina, uno de los fármacos más conocidos y utilizados, previene las infecciones por COVID-19, de acuerdo a informes de Enlace Judío.

En base a pruebas PCR realizadas en Israel, el estudio encontró que personas que toman pequeñas dosis de aspirina tenían 29 por ciento menos probabilidades de contraer COVID-19.

“Observamos una menor proporción de personas que daban positivo, y esto es un indicio prometedor de que la aspirina, un medicamento tan conocido y barato, podría ser útil para combatir la pandemia”, explicó Milana Frenkel-Morgenstern, de la Universidad Bar-Ilan.

Además, el consumo de aspirina podría reducir el tiempo de la enfermedad en aproximadamente dos días, así como las probabilidades de sufrir secuelas, según el estudio.

“Este hallazgo con respecto al ‘COVID prolongado’, es muy importante”, comentó Frenkel-Morgenstern, cuyas investigaciones anteriores se han adelantado a los acontecimientos. Su estudio que recomienda la vitamina D contra COVID-19, fue seguido por afirmaciones similares de varios científicos.

El estudio se basa en resultados de 10,477 pruebas de personas que toman la dosis de 75 miligramos de aspirina. Esto es para la prevención de enfermedades cardiovasculares.

“Esta observación del posible efecto beneficioso de dosis bajas de aspirina sobre el COVID-19 es preliminar. Parece muy prometedora”, señaló el profesor Eli Maguén de Barzilai.

Frenkel-Morgenstern agregó que se desconoce el mecanismo por el que la aspirina reduce aparentemente el riesgo de infección. Cree que acorta la enfermedad debido a sus cualidades antiinflamatorias.

El Dr. Eugene Merzon de Leumit colaboró en la investigación. Dijo que a pesar de las limitaciones de un estudio de observación las tasas de infección pueden considerarse un indicio del beneficio de la aspirina contra COVID-19. Esto es a diferencia de un estudio clínico.

“El hecho de que hayamos visto que no se trata solo de la probabilidad de infección. Sino también de la duración de la enfermedad, apunta a la posibilidad de beneficios, en términos biológicos, de tomar aspirina”, explicó.

Frenkel-Morgenstern advirtió que se trata de una investigación temprana. Espera que lleve a un estudio posterior, y subrayó que no recomienda que la gente se autorecete aspirina.

El estudio realizado por la Universidad Bar-Ilan fue publicado en la revista FEBS. El mismo se realizó en colaboración con los Servicios de Salud Leumit y el Centro Médico Barzilai de Ashkelón.
