La cuenta de Twitter de Maariv y el sitio web de The Jerusalem Post fueron atacadas por piratas informáticos pro iraníes en las primeras horas del lunes por la mañana. Una foto de una instalación nuclear modelo Dimona explotada y el texto «estamos cerca de usted, donde no, piénselo «en inglés y hebreo en Twitter y en el sitio web.
La foto también mostraba un misil balístico cayendo. Lo que parecería ser una representación de la mano del comandante de la Fuerza Quds del Cuerpo de la Guardia Revolucionaria Islámica (IRGC), Qasem Soleimani . El domingo por la noche marcó el segundo aniversario del asesinato estadounidense de Soleimani en Bagdad en 2020.

Desde entonces se eliminó el tweet con la foto en la cuenta de Twitter de Maariv. Como así también un retweet de una cuenta con el nombre de usuario @ShiaEagle que incluye una ilustración de Soleimani y el comandante de las Fuerzas de Movilización Popular (PMF) Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis (quien murió junto a Soleimani). La cuenta @ShiaEagle, creada en el verano de 2021, también fue suspendida desde entonces.
Desde la herramienta de inspección en Google Chrome, parece que los piratas informáticos lograron editar las palabras clave de SEO del sitio Jerusalem Post para que fueran «Israel, JPost, maariv, il, ataque, pirateo [y] ransomware» durante el ataque.

No está claro si los piratas informáticos eran de Irán o simpatizantes de fuera del país o si estaban patrocinados por el estado.
Esta no es la primera vez que atacan al The Post piratas informáticos pro iraníes.
En mayo de 2020, piratas informáticos pro iraníes reemplazaron la página de inicio del sitio con una ilustración de la quema de Tel Aviv. El entonces primer ministro Benjamin Netanyahu nadaba en busca de un salvavidas con las palabras «Esté preparado para una gran sorpresa». En ese momento también fueron blanco del ataque varios sitios web israelíes adicionales.
