Cuatro policías de la alcaldía de Queens posaban para una fotografía que les había solicitado un fotógrafo independiente cuando un hombre se acercó a ellos y sin mediar palabras los atacó, señaló un comunicado del ayuntamiento.
Un oficial fue golpeado en un brazo y otro en la cabeza antes de que los policías reaccionaran y abatieran al hombre a balazos, precisó el comisionado de la policía Bill Bratton.
La policía está investigando los motivos del ataque, añadió Bratton, indicando que aún era prematuro determinar si se trató de un ataque terrorista.
Una persona de 29 años que estaba en el lugar fue alcanzada accidentalmente por una bala en la espalda y fue trasladada a un hospital, mientras que el hombre que tomaba la fotografía colaboró con la policía y no es considerado un sospechoso, destacó Bratton.
