Es notorio que EEUU y la mayoría de los gobiernos europeos han cometido errores en sus programas políticos como en su diplomacia en Oriente Medio. No hubo avances en articular políticas que seduzcan a la calle árabe y cautiven el corazón y las ideas de los musulmanes para alcanzar una victoria definitiva en la guerra contra el terrorismo yihadista. Los resultados están a la vista. El ejército del califato islámico (ISIS) es el emergente de los dislates de la administración Obama como de sus colegas Hollande y Cameron. Ellos lo crearon junto a Qatar y, posiblemente, nos lleven ahora a una nueva guerra cuyo resultado incierto puede abrir puertas a la profundización de la brecha entre Oriente y Occidente al intentar neutralizarlo.
Por no aparecer ante la opinión pública como potencias imperialistas o racistas, los gobiernos occidentales se muestran dubitativos al momento de pronunciarse sobre sus leyes migratorias y la defensa de sus propias fronteras. Al tiempo que son reacios en pedir a los inmigrantes -tanto- su asimilación como el respeto por las leyes de los países de acogida para no dar una imagen xenófoba.
En su mayoría, los occidentales se muestran confundidos y paralizados en aspectos inherentes a la preservación de su propia civilización. Los programas educativos de sus universidades no se han adaptado a la nueva realidad de las relaciones internacionales -y hasta la evitan- para no ser acusados de supremacistas.
En resumen, Occidente está inactivo y a la defensiva. Esto se aprecia en los conflictos de legitimación de sus propias sociedades modernas que colisionan y viven en la disociación de sus viejos pecados. De allí que su dirigencia política no actúa por temor a ser sindicada como racista o imperialista en Oriente Medio.
En este proceso Occidente está perdiendo la capacidad de discernir entre el bien y el mal, entregándose así a corrientes que ejercitan el doble rasero y la deslegitimación. El ejemplo más claro de estas conductas en la escena internacional es la demonización del Estado de Israel y el silencio sobre los crímenes de las dictaduras árabes y los grupos radicales yihadistas.
¿Pero cuál es la razón de este actuar? Después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, cuando el mundo conoció que 6 millones de judíos habían sido sistemáticamente exterminados por los nazis fue cuando se comenzó a hablar de antisemitismo. Pero ya no es el caso. Hoy la memoria del Holocausto se desvanece en la historia mientras EEUU continua engrosando la petro-riqueza de sus propios enemigos y Europa se empeña en negar realidades innegables. Así, los islamistas toman el control de Naciones Unidas y otros Organismos Internacionales, y la primavera árabe evolucionó hacia un invierno desolador de destrucción de los derechos humanos y políticos de las personas..
En este escenario las universidades occidentales se convierten en centros de virulenta militancia y retórica anti-estadounidense y anti-occidental. Así, la lógica y la verdad se desvanecen en los claustros universitarios; los hechos y la historia son ficción y se reescriben, las democracias son difícil de distinguir de las dictaduras y el antisemitismo y anti sionismo se han vuelto complejos en su separación.
Es cierto que criticar a Israel no convierte a una persona en antisemita, lo mismo que criticar al gobierno de Francia no hace a uno anti- francés. Pero una cosa es criticar a Francia y algo muy diferente es declarar la ilegitimidad de la República Francesa y promover su destrucción. El lector convendrá conmigo en que Francia es una democracia guste o no, y lo mismo Israel que configura el único puesto de avanzada de la democracia moderna en el Oriente Medio con el mismo e indiscutible derecho a existir que Francia.
Usted como lector puede pensar lo que desee. Pero le confieso que a mí me resulta curioso escuchar y ver cómo activistas y estudiantes occidentales se pronuncian en favor del boicot a Israel, al tiempo que jamás han mencionado la ocupación de iure que Irán ejerce sobre el Líbano a través de Hezbollah, ni la propia financiación de países árabes a grupos yihadistas que han tomado como hobby cortar cabezas.
Ante este escenario, deberían surgir algunos interrogantes simples para cualquier persona bien pensante y amante de la libertad y la paz. Por ejemplo: ¿Por qué no vemos manifestaciones en Londres, París, Madrid, Buenos Aires, Brasilia, Santiago de Chile, New York o Washington contra las dictaduras islamistas? ¿Por qué no hay manifestaciones contra la esclavitud de millones de mujeres que viven sin ninguna protección legal? ¿Por qué no hay manifestaciones contra el uso de niños como escudos humanos? ¿Por qué no ha habido ningún liderazgo occidental apoyando las víctimas de la dictadura Islamista en Sudán? ¿Por qué nadie expresa ninguna indignación ante el terrorismo cometido a diario por el ISIS contra los yazidies y cristianos en Siria e Irak? ¿Por qué no hay ninguna protesta de los europeos contra el yihadismo? Y finalmente, ¿por qué Occidente -en gran parte- está obsesionado con dos democracias reconocidas por la comunidad internacional como son EEUU e Israel; en lugar de repudiar las peores dictaduras del planeta.
Si Occidente no puede reconocer la diferencia entre un Estado democrático y una dictadura, o entre un yihadista y un hombre de paz; entonces, a todas luces nos encontramos ante el mayor fracaso político, ético y moral de nuestro tiempo. Si se carece de la capacidad para distinguir entre aquellos que defienden los valores básicos de la humanidad y respetan la santidad de la vida ante quienes son los verdaderos destructores de esos valores y justifican el asesinato y la decapitación de inocentes en nombre de motivos religiosos o ideológicos, definitivamente estamos en problemas. Y lo estamos más aún si no lo señalamos quienes adherimos al respeto por la vida, la democracia y la libertad del hombre. Porque aquellos ganados por el odio no comprenden que los que amenazan la existencia misma de valores básicos en Oriente Medio; serán, a largo plazo, no solo una amenaza regional, sino global e internacional.
