La representante Elise Stefanik (R-NY), presidenta de la Conferencia Republicana de la Cámara de Representantes, criticó el jueves al presidente estadounidense Joe Biden por su respuesta a las reformas judiciales planificadas en Israel.
“Los comentarios hostiles de Biden hacia nuestro aliado Israel son vergonzosos”, tuiteó.
“Las democracias de todo el mundo tienen debates sólidos sobre cuestiones de política, pero Israel es el único objetivo de la hostilidad y la condena de Biden. Siempre estoy orgulloso de estar con Israel. Es hora de que Joe Biden haga lo mismo”, agregó Stefanik.
Con los comentarios, Stefanik se convirtió en la´ultima legisladora republicana en criticar a Biden. Más temprano el jueves, el presidente de la Cámara de Representantes de los Estados Unidos, Kevin McCarthy, describió al primer ministro Benjamin Netanyahu como “un patriota israelí, estadista y, lo que es más importante, un gran amigo de los Estados Unidos de América”.
Agregó que apoya a Netanyahu y pidió a los estadounidenses que se unan para apoyar a Israel.
Además, el miércoles, la exembajadora de Estados Unidos ante la ONU, Nikki Haley, y el senador Ted Cruz acusaron a Biden de involucrarse indebidamente en un asunto político interno israelí.
Estos comentarios se produjeron después de que Biden ofreciera críticas muy duras a Israel, diciendo que está «muy preocupado» por lo que sucede a la luz de la reforma judicial y agregó: «No pueden continuar por este camino«.
Biden también agregó que no invitará al primer ministro Benjamin Netanyahu a la Casa Blanca en el corto plazo.
Netanyahu luego respondió a Biden y dijo: “La alianza entre Israel y Estados Unidos es inquebrantable y siempre supera los desacuerdos ocasionales entre nosotros”.
También enfatizó que “Israel es un país soberano que toma sus decisiones por la voluntad de su pueblo y no en base a presiones del exterior, incluso de los mejores amigos”.
