Beit Guvrin. Sitio del Patrimonio de la Humanidad

El Parque Nacional “Beit Guvrin, Mearot Maresha”, se incorpora al listado de los siete sitios de Patrimonio de la Humanidad, que ya fueron declarados en Israel y al prestigioso listado de sitios seleccionados y más importantes del mundo. Así fue anunciado en la Convención de Patrimonio de la Humanidad, efectuada en Qatar.

Esa candidatura fue presentada por la Dirección de Parques, por medio del Comité Israelí de la UNESCO, del Ministerio de Educación, la Cancillería y otros organismos. La declaración ubica a Israel como puente entre culturas antiguas e importante foco para la preservación del patrimonio mundial, articulando el pasado con el presente.

La declaración provocará un significativo aumento en el número de visitantes al lugar, una más amplia publicación en la media mundial, el desarrollo y protección del lugar frente a los daños humanos o de la naturaleza.

Se trata del octavo sitio declarado en Israel, que se incorpora al: Parque Nacional de Masada, Acco, La Ciudad Blanca de Tel Aviv, el Camino del Incienso, Los Tel Bíblicos, los Jardines Bahai y la Reserva Natural Nahal Mearot.

Las cuevas del sitio, extendidas sobre 5 km, representan la “Tierra de las Mil Cuevas” en el valle del Jordán y todas por acción del hombre, caracterizando a los diferentes tipos de cuevas en la región. A diferencia de otros sitios en el mundo, las cuevas no sirvieron de vivienda por motivos de salud. Las primeras en la región fueron cavadas en el Siglo IX AC y el periodo récord en el uso de cuevas fueron los Siglos II y III AC. En los primeros siglos de la Era Cristiana fueron cavadas las de Beit Guvrin, siendo las más famosas las Grandes Cuevas de Campanas, de los Siglos VI y VIII de la EC.

El Dr Tzvika Tzuk, arqueólogo principal de la Dirección de Parques, dijo: “Estamos contentos por el consenso profesional para declarar las cuevas de Maresha y Beit Guvrin, como sitio de Patrimonio Mundial, adoptada por la Comisión de Patrimonio de la UNESCO.

De la Dirección de Parques se transmitió: “Aceptamos el compromiso de continuar mejorando el sitio, declarado parte del patrimonio cultural del Estado de Israel junto a otros organismos públicos y gubernamentales”.
