La cadena estatal española RTVE se ha puesto en contacto formalmente con la Unión Europea de Radiodifusión (UER) para iniciar un debate sobre la inclusión de la emisora pública de Israel Kan en el próximo Festival de la Canción de Eurovisión, informó AFP .
En un comunicado oficial publicado el viernes, RTVE informó haber enviado una carta a la UER, organismo que supervisa Eurovisión, solicitando un debate sobre la participación de la televisión pública israelí. La emisora enfatizó que su solicitud se debía a la sensibilidad de la situación geopolítica actual y al creciente malestar entre algunos sectores de la sociedad española.
Al tiempo que reafirmaba su compromiso con el evento de Eurovisión, RTVE señaló: “Sería apropiado que la UER reconociera la existencia de este debate y ofreciera un foro de discusión entre las emisoras miembros de la UER sobre la participación de la televisión pública israelí”.
El Festival de la Canción de Eurovisión 2025 se celebrará en Basilea, Suiza, con semifinales el 13 y 15 de mayo y la gran final el 17 de mayo. Como es tradición, la emisora pública de cada país participante selecciona a su concursante. La decisión de excluir a Kan supondría la exclusión efectiva de Israel de la competición.
Israel ya ha anunciado que Yuval Raphael, sobreviviente de la masacre del Festival de Música Nova el 7 de octubre de 2023, será su representante en Eurovisión. La canción que interpretará se llama «New Day Will Rise» y fue escrita por Keren Peles, con arreglos y producción musical de Tomer Biran.
RTVE afirmó que “reitera su apoyo” a Eurovisión como plataforma cultural al tiempo que reconoce que “la situación en Gaza y la participación de la televisión pública Kan están suscitando [preocupación] en la sociedad civil española”.
Los debates sobre la participación de Israel en el concurso se han intensificado. Durante el evento del año pasado en Malmö, Suecia, miles de personas se manifestaron contra la participación de Israel en medio del conflicto en curso en Gaza.
La UER anunció antes del concurso del año pasado que rechazaba los pedidos de prohibir la participación de Israel en Eurovisión 2024 debido a la guerra en Gaza.

Tras el anuncio de la UER de que Israel participará en Eurovisión, la emisora pública de Islandia, RUV, anunció que considerará retirarse del concurso debido a la participación de Israel.
Según AFP , las peticiones para excluir a Israel del concurso de este año no se limitan a España. La emisora nacional finlandesa Yle recibió dos peticiones formales en marzo instando a tomar medidas contra la participación de Israel. Una de ellas contó con el respaldo de más de 500 profesionales de los sectores musical y cultural, mientras que otra petición pública recogió más de 10.000 firmas.
