Desconocidos dañaron un monumento en Rumania dedicado a los seis integrantes de la Fuerza Aérea de Israel que murieron durante un ejercicio de entrenamiento de helicópteros en 2010.
Los vándalos cubrieron el monumento con esvásticas, el dibujo de un cerdo, y la leyenda “Ustedes son cerdos,” transliterada del hebreo a caracteres latinos.
La embajadora de Israel en Rumania, Tamar Samash, se comunicó al agregado de la policía israelí en Bucarest, quien a su vez se puso en contacto con las autoridades policiales rumanas y descubrió que el incidente aún no había sido denunciado. Posteriormente, la policía local abrió una investigación.
El monumento está ubicado en una zona aislada en las afueras de la ciudad de Brasov, por lo que las autoridades locales tienen poca o ninguna información de lo que allí ocurre. El embajador envió cartas al presidente, al primer ministro y al ministro de Exteriores de Rumania para informarles del incidente. También reclamó una rápida reacción.
El accidente conmemorado por el monumento dañado tuvo lugar el 26 de julio de 2010. Según los reportes de los medios de Bucarest, el Ministerio de Defensa rumano explicó que el helicóptero, un Sikorsky CH-53, se estrelló durante el ejercicio aéreo conjunto rumano-israelí Blue Sky 2010, que se prolongó por once.
A bordo del helicóptero, había cuatro pilotos y dos mecánicos de la Fuerza Aérea de Israel.
Los israelíes muertos en el accidente fueron identificados como el teniente coronel (reserva) Avner Goldman, de 48 años, domiciliado en Modiín; el teniente coronel Daniel Shipenbauer, de 43, de Kidrón; la mayor Yahel Keshet, 33, de Hatzerim; el mayor Lior Shai, 28, Tel Nof; el teniente Nir Lakrif, 25, Tel Nof; y el sargento primero Oren Cohen, 24, de Rehovot.
