Más de 70 años después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, las huellas de la vida cotidiana de los judíos en Polonia siguen saliendo a la superficie: un broche encontrado cerca de Auschwitz relata una historia de amor y la difícil vida en el gueto de Lodz.
En acero inoxidable, la joya imita una cartilla de racionamiento de pan que fue regalada a una tal «Heli» por su marido, «Pawel» por su aniversario de boda.
«El pan era racionado y muy apreciado en el gueto, una cuestión de vida o muerte, por eso este broche era un regalo tremendamente simbólico de amor para una pareja que estaba presa», explicó este lunes Dagmar Kopiasz, responsable de la Fundación polaca de sitios de la Memoria (FPMP).
Desde hace algunos años, la FPMP reúne objetos que pertenecieron a víctimas del Holocausto, hallados por los habitantes de las ciudades polacas de Oswiecim y Brzezinka, cerca del campo de exterminio de Auschwitz-Birkenau, en la Polonia ocupada por la Alemania nazi.
En el reverso del broche está escrito: «A mi querida Heli, en el sexto aniversario de nuestro matrimonio. Pawek», así como la fecha «15 de agosto, 1937-1943».
El broche lleva la inscripción en alemán «Cartilla de pan», el nombre de «Hinda Weiksel» y la dirección «Hanseaten 42» en el gueto de Lodz.
El objeto fue encontrado tras la guerra en un basurero por una familia polaca que lo guardó durante decenios. Un miembro de la familia «nos la dio este año», precisó Kopiasz.
Decenas de miles de detenidos del gueto de Lodz fueron deportados a Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Un broche similar se conserva en el Instituto Yad Vashem de Jerusalén, fabricado por un artesano del gueto de Lodz, Chaim Klieger. Fabricaba peinetas, broches y medallones en ferralla para intercambiarlos por comida. «Muchos de estos objetos representaban escenas de la vida del gueto», según Yad Vashem.
