Congresista Engel critica el boicot a Israel

Eliot Engel, congresista demócrata de Nueva York, que es también el político de más alto rango de su partido en el Comité de Relaciones Exteriores de la Cámara, criticó a la Asociación Americana de Estudios (ASA) por su decisión de lanzar un boicot académico contra Israel.

«Yo simplemente no veo cómo cortar lazos con universidades israelíes favorezca los intereses de la paz y la convivencia», dijo Engel. «Irónicamente, muchos dentro de la comunidad académica de Israel son partidarios fuertes y vocales de la paz – y simplemente están siendo boicoteados por su nacionalidad y afiliación académica.»

«Quiero señalar que Israel es el primer país en ser boicoteado por esta organización académica, que ha optado por permanecer en silencio sobre la masacre en Siria, el continuo encarcelamiento de activistas por la democracia en Irán, o las decenas de dictaduras en todo el mundo» dijo el congresista. «Sin embargo, una vez más vemos este doble rasero injusto aplicado a Israel», finalizó.
