Mughniyeh fue abatido en operación conjunta del Mossad y la CIA

Así lo señala un reporte del periódico The Washington Post, en el que se asegura que el histórico líder del movimiento terrorista chiíta libanés Hezbollah, Imad Fayez Mughniyeh, fallecido a raíz de una misteriosa explosión en Damasco, el 12 de febrero de 2008, fue abatido en una operación conjunta del servicio secreto israelí Mossad y la CIA. Según el informe, el ex presidente George W. Bush autorizó el operativo.

«La bomba fue fabricada en Estados Unidos», dice el reporte y aclara que la Central de Inteligencia Americana tenía observadores en el terreno en la capital siria, que lo estaban siguiendo a Mughniyeh; pero el artefacto explosivo fue detonado a control remoto desde Israel.

“De la forma que en fue preparado, Estados Unidos podía objetar y aplazar; pero no ejecutar”, dijo al periódico un ex oficial de inteligencia.

El informe, confirmado al diario por cinco ex altos cargos de inteligencia estadounidense, indica que Estados Unidos colaboró en la preparación de la bomba, que se probó hasta veinticinco veces en una instalación secreta en Carolina del Norte, para asegurar que no habría daños colaterales.

«Detonamos 25 bombas para asegurarnos de que saldría bien», precisó uno de los ex altos oficiales de Inteligencia estadounidense al rotativo.

Un funcionario norteamericano expresó que era importante para Israel apretar el gatillo que activó el artefacto que eliminó a Mughniyeh. “Era una venganza”, puntualizó.

Mughniyeh fue uno de los fundadores del aparato militar de Hezbollah y se había convertido en el jefe de operaciones internacionales de esa organización terrorista chií.

Estaba implicado en la voladura de la Embajada de Estados Unidos en Beirut, en 1983, en el atentado contra la Embajada de Israel en Buenos Aires, en 1992, y contra la sede del centro comunitario AMIA en la capital argentina, en el que fueron asesinadas 85 personas.

El terrorista libanés chií pro-iraní, estaba involucrado también en el asesinato del jefe de la CIA en el Líbano, William F. Buckly, en 1994, y en el atentado contra las Torres Khobar en Arabia Saudita, en 1996.

Tras la invasión norteamericana a Irak, Mughniyeh fue el responsable de armar y entrenar a las milicias iraquíes chiís, que realizaban ataques letales contra las tropas estadounidenses.

Con tales antecedentes, Mughniyeh encabezaba la lista norteamericana de terroristas buscados.

Mughniyeh “era un agente de los iraníes” apuntó el ex jefe de la Inteligencia Militar israelí al diario.

El informe del Washington Post indica que la Administración Bush consideraba a Mughniyeh como una amenaza principal contra la seguridad de Estados Unidos.
Un ex oficial norteamericano, que estuvo asignado en Bagdad, manifestó que “había una licencia para encontrar y eliminar a Mughniyeh, y a cualquiera que estuviese vinculado al mismo”.

La CIA tuvo que conseguir una aprobación especial de Bush para realizar la operación para eliminar a Mughniyeh; en tanto que el fiscal general el director nacional de inteligencia, el asesor de seguridad nacional y la Oficina de Asesoramiento Legal de EE.UU., todos debieron firmar el plan. Uno de los oficiales puntualizó que el proceso para conseguir la autorización para la operación fue “riguroso y tedioso”.

Los oficiales de inteligencia debían demostrar que Mughniyeh y Hezbollah era una amenaza constante para Estados Unidos. “La decisión fue tal que teníamos que tener la absoluta confirmación de que era un acto de autodefensa”, explicó un ex oficial de inteligencia citado por el periódico.

“Todo lo que puedo decir es que mientras continuara respirando, era una amenaza, ya sea en el Líbano, Irak, o en cualquier parte. Era un operativo muy inteligente, dedicado y efectivo, del lado del mal”, aseveró el ex embajador norteamericano en Irak Ryan C. Crocker al rotativo.

El informe añade que la CIA sabía desde hacía al menos un año el lugar donde estaba viviendo Mughniyeh, antes de ser abatido, y que el Mossad trajo la idea de una operación conjunta.

Hezbolá culpó en su momento a Israel por el deceso de Mughniyeh. Hasta ahora había trascendido escasa información sobre esta operación conjunta del Mossad y CIA, subraya el diario.

Dos operativos de inteligencia norteamericana también tuvieron la oportunidad de dar muerte al jefe de la Fuerza Quds de la Guardia Revolucionaria de Irán, Qassem Soleimani, cuando caminaba junto con Mughniyeh, reveló el Washington Post; pero debido a la ausencia de autorización del presidente estadounidense no pudieron hacerlo por falta de sustento legal.

Según el diario londinense Sunday Times, Mughniyeh murió al salir de una recepción, organizada por el embajador Irán en Damasco, Hojatoeslam Ahmad Musavi, para festejar el vigésimo noveno aniversario del triunfo de la revolución iraní. Mughniyeh se subió a su automóvil plateado todoterreno 4×4 Mitsubishi Pajero, modelo 2006, sin darse cuenta que la almohadilla del vehículo había sido reemplazada por otra que tenía un artefacto explosivo.
