El presidente norteamericano, Barack Obama, indicó recientemente que no habrá un cambio de estrategia y no propuso un nuevo plan de acción para derrotar al Estado Islámico, subrayando su confianza en el actual enfoque norteamericano y la falta de otras opciones para vencer a los jihadistas.
Recientemente, el ministro de Defensa, Moshé Yaalón, por su parte, instó a Estados Unidos a tomar un rol más activo en la región.
De acuerdo con un reporte del diario Haaretz, Eizenkot indicó, en una reunión a puertas cerradas que no es probable que la coalición internacional liderada por EE.UU. pueda derrotar al Estado Islámico sin poner las fuerzas militares sobre el terreno. Más aún,
Hezbollah ha sufrido grandes pérdidas desde que se involucró en la guerra civil. La organización extremista libanesa ha perdido más de 1.300 efectivos y sufrido 5.000 heridos. Se calcula que el grupo que tiene no más de 30 mil combatientes, incluyendo a los reservistas. Mientras que Irán, que envió a 2.000 militares, para apoyar el plan ruso en el norte de Siria, también ha perdido un número significativo de soldados en los combates, y se cree que el jefe de la Fuerza Quds de la Guardia Revolucionaria Iraní, general Qassem Soleimani, ha sido herido, de acuerdo con el informe.
Eizenkot mantiene que la victoria del Estado Islámico en la guerra significaría para Israel un escenario algo un poco peor a la alternativa de que Assad gane.
