El ministro de Defensa, Benny Gantz, ordenó el lunes al Jefe de Estado Mayor de las FDI, Aviv Kohavi, que «intensifique los preparativos para las Fuerzas de Defensa de Israel», antes de una propuesta del gobierno para anexar sectores de Cisjordania.
El ejército tiene aproximadamente un mes para completar los preparativos antes del plan del gobierno para extender la soberanía israelí a los asentamientos y al Valle del Jordán, alrededor del 30 por ciento de Cisjordania, que muchos analistas y funcionarios de defensa han advertido que podría provocar un brote de violencia palestina, además de amenazar los lazos de Jerusalén con su vecino Jordania y otros países árabes.

En su declaración, el ministro de defensa no se refirió explícitamente a la anexión, pero ordenó a Kohavi que «intensifique los preparativos para las FDI antes de los esfuerzos diplomáticos en la agenda en la arena palestina».
«El ministro de Defensa también actualizó al jefe de gabinete sobre los avances en el frente diplomático», dijo un portavoz, sin dar más detalles.
Gantz dijo que también planea designar a una persona de contacto para coordinar entre los diferentes organismos gubernamentales involucrados en el proceso.
«Se formará un equipo conjunto que reunirá recomendaciones, a nivel operativo, para los esfuerzos que están en la agenda de Cisjordania y la Franja de Gaza», dijo su oficina.
La medida se coordinaría con los Estados Unidos, de acuerdo con un plan de Medio Oriente que el presidente de los Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, dio a conocer en enero, que aprobó la extensión de la soberanía israelí sobre estas partes de Cisjordania.
Sin embargo, todo el plan de paz ha sido rechazado por la Autoridad Palestina, que busca Cisjordania como territorio para un futuro estado palestino.
