Un escándalo se generó en uno de los partidos de hoy de la Champions League cuando los jugadores del Istanbul Basaksehir abandonaron la cancha en medio del partido que estaban disputando contra el PSG por insultos racistas del cuarto árbitro a un ayudante del cuerpo técnico turco. Los franceses acompañaron la reacción de sus rivales y también dejaron el campo.

Iban 13 minutos cuando el juez principal, Hategan, se acercó a la zona de los bancos de suplentes y echó, por aviso del 4° árbitro, el rumano Constantin Sebastian Coltescu, a Pierre Webo, ayudante del cuerpo técnico del Istanbul. Pero de inmediato Webo, ex jugador de Osasuna y Mallorca, entre otros, encaró al cuarto árbitro y a los gritos comenzó a preguntarle con tono de recriminación «¿por qué me decís negro?, ¿por qué me decís negro?», y se lo repitió una y otra vez. Enseguida, como si los que estaban cerca de la acción hubieran escuchado las mismas palabras racistas, el reproche al pito fue general. Incluso Neymar y Mbappé se pararon delante del juez principal para pedirle que se fuera el árbitro por sus palabras discriminatorias.

Hubo varios minutos de incertidumbre. El juez se reunió con algunos jugadores turcos. Los directivos de ambos equipos aparecieron en el campo de juego. Mientras con la cara Coltescu revelaba -sin decirlo- que se había equivocado.

Ante esa palabra, que puede tener una fuerte carga despectiva y racista, Webo y todo el banco de suplentes comenzaron a protestar. Y el reclamo tuvo el acompañamiento de todos los miembros del PSG.

El cuarto árbitro intentó defenderse asegurando que en su idioma la palabra «negro» no tiene la connotación de insultos racistas. Pero frente a la inacción del árbitro principal, al revuelo generado y pese a la intervención del delegado de la UEFA, ​los jugadores del Istanbul se fueron del campo de juego, seguidos por sus rivales, lo que provocó la suspensión del partido
