Israel desarrolló un proyectil de mortero con láser y GPS

Israel ya dispone de un innovador sistema de munición de mortero guiado con láser y GPS. El mismo permite «atacar objetivos con mayor precisión» en terrenos abiertos y en entornos urbanos. Pronto estará a disposición del Ejército israelí, informó hoy el Ministerio de Defensa en un comunicado.

Las pruebas del nuevo equipamiento, denominado Iron Sting (aguijón de hierro, en inglés), acabaron recientemente con éxito, y según el ministro de Defensa, Beny Gantz, supondrá un cambio en el campo de batalla que dará «medios más precisos y eficaces» a las tropas informó Aurora.

Fue desarrollado por la empresa de armamento local Elbit Systems y, tras finalizar todas las pruebas pertinentes en el sur del país, se comenzará a producir en serie para suministrarlo al Ejército.

Aparte de tener «una capacidad de disparo precisa que hasta ahora solo se ha aplicado en misiles y municiones aéreas», el sistema «reduce» la posibilidad de causar «daños colaterales» y el riesgo de que civiles y no combatientes sean heridos, explicó Defensa.

También adapta y mejora las «capacidades de combate» del Ejército «para enfrentarse a enemigos ocultos en entornos urbanos civiles», destacó Gantz.

El Iron Sting es fruto de diez años de investigación y tiene un mecanismo «complejo» que aporta «funciones avanzadas» para «el campo de batalla moderno», aseveró el brigadier general Yaniv Rotem, miembro de la Dirección de Investigación y Desarrollo del Ministerio de Defensa.
