Un cohete Soyuz despegó este lunes desde Kazajistán con tres nanosatélites israelíes que probarán una forma alternativa de proporcionar servicios de ubicación de emergencia para aquellos necesitados de auxilios de rescate.

El lanzamiento se retrasó dos días debido al mal tiempo, pero finalmente logró enviar 38 pequeños satélites de 18 países en su camino al espacio, informó Enlace Judío.

Los nanosatélites israelíes del tamaño de una caja de zapatos, fabricados por el Technion de Haifa y con el ingeneiro Pini Gurfil como la mente detrás de ellos, se colocarán en una órbita a 600 kilómetros sobre la superficie del planeta durante tres años.

Los nanosatélites se están lanzando para probar si se puede utilizar una serie de satélites pequeños, en lugar de un solo satélite grande, para monitorear las señales de las balizas de localización de emergencia utilizadas por barcos, aviones, exploradores y excursionistas.

El trío de satélites se mantendrá en perfecta formación, a menos de 250 kilómetros de distancia, gracias a los diminutos navegadores a bordo.

Un sistema de combustible especialmente construido, desarrollado en el Technion junto con el resto de la tecnología a bordo, permitirá que cada nanosatélite complete su misión con 400 gramos de criptón, el gas que se usa a menudo para llenar las bombillas fluorescentes.
