A cinco días de haberse eliminado el uso de cubrebocas en Israel, el Ministerio de Salud ordenó a los alumnos de las localidades de Modiín y Biniamina volver a protegerse debido a un nuevo brote de COVID-19 en ambas zonas.

Las autoridades sanitarias temen que el nuevo contagio haya sido causado por la variante “delta”, de rápida propagación originada en la India. Insta a los residentes de Biniamina a someterse a pruebas de coronavirus para evitar una mayor propagación.

Un alto funcionario del Ministerio de Salud dijo a la emisora pública Kan que el 90% de los niños detectados presentan síntomas del virus, y señaló que se trata de un fenómeno excepcional.

Recalcó que la vacuna de Pfizer tiene una eficacia de aproximadamente 88% contra la variante india, frente a una efectividad del 96% contra la británica.

Un reporte publicado esta mañana indica que la variante de la India es 60 por ciento más contagiosa que la británica y provoca mayores hospitalizaciones.

El domingo se registró otro brote en el Valle del Jordán. Fue luego de que un residente de un Kibutz local diera positivo al virus tras regresar de un viaje de negocios a Dubai.

Sus hijos también dieron positivo a COVID-19. La escuela primaria a la que asisten fue clausurada a la espera de los resultados de las pruebas masivas.
Además, el Ministerio de Salud instruyó hoy a 450 personas que asistieron este jueves a un espectáculo en la zona de Emek Hamaayanot en el norte de Israel entrar en cuarentena luego de que una mujer vacunada entre el público diera positivo al virus.
