Un segundo judoka se retiró de la competencia de judo de los Juegos Olímpicos Tokio 2020 para evitar enfrentar a un israelí.

Tohar Butbul, representante de Israel, fue catalogado como «Sin competidor» en lo que debió ser una pelea con Mohamed Abdalrasool, de Sudán, en la división masculina de 73 kg.

Los funcionarios olímpicos dicen que Abdalrasool no se presentó para enfrentar a Butbul en su ronda, a pesar de haber intervenido para la pelea antes. La Federación Internacional de Judo (IJF) no quiso anunciar inmediatamente la razón por la que no compitió.

La semana pasada, Abdalrasool iba a enfrentarse a Fethi Nourine, de Argelia, pero este último decidió retirarse para evitar la posibilidad de encontrarse con el israelí en la lona.

A Nourine y su entrenador Amar Benikhlef se les retiró la acreditación olímpica y los enviaron a casa.

El comité ejecutivo de la IJF anunció que suspendieron temporalmente a Nourine y Benikhlef. En respuesta, el Comité Olímpico de Argelia retiró su acreditación y se esperan nuevas sanciones.

Además, la IJF afirmó que la postura de Nourine estaba «en total oposición a la filosofía de la Federación Internacional de Judo».

“La FIJ tiene una estricta política de no discriminación, promoviendo la solidaridad como principio clave, reforzada por los valores del judo”, agregó.

Por su parte, expresó: «El judo se basa en un código moral sólido, que incluye el respeto y la amistad, para fomentar la solidaridad y no toleraremos ninguna discriminación. Va en contra de los valores y principios fundamentales de nuestro deporte».

En declaraciones a una estación de televisión argelina, Nourine aseveró que su apoyo político a la causa palestina le hacía imposible competir contra un israelí.

No es la primera vez que Nourine se retira para evitar enfrentarse a un oponente israelí. También lo hizo en el campeonato mundial de 2019 en Tokio.

Butbul luego derrotó a Victor Stepru de la República de Moldavia en un combate de eliminación. Aunque finalmente perdió ante Changrim An de Corea del Sur en los cuartos de final y nuevamente ante el canadiense Arthur Margelidon Ya no tiene chances de medalla.
