El gobierno lanzará un programa para animar a las producciones cinematográficas extranjeras a rodar en Israel, reveló el ministro de Finanzas, Avigdor Liberman.
Este plan asignará 45 millones de NIS (casi 15 millones de dólares) para producciones extranjeras de televisión y cine en Israel en los próximos dos años. Además, será el último de una serie de planes que intentan incentivar a Hollywood a utilizar el Estado Judío como telón de fondo.
No obstante, Liberman dijo que el plan constituirá un paso importante hacia “la marca positiva de Israel en el mundo como centro de rodaje de películas y programas de televisión internacionales utilizando sus recursos naturales y lugares históricos únicos”.
La iniciativa es un esfuerzo de cooperación de los sectores de cultura, asuntos exteriores, economía, turismo y finanzas, agregó.
Estas medidas se anuncian efusivamente desde que se aprobó una ley de 2008 que ofrece ventajas fiscales y otros incentivos para fomentar rodajes en Israel. Sin embargo, esa ley obliga a los productores extranjeros a recibir sus beneficios a través de una empresa cinematográfica local, un proceso que se considera innecesariamente burocrático y poco práctico, y los incentivos financieros seguían siendo inferiores a los ofrecidos por otros países.

Desde entonces, en 2011, 2012 y 2017, los funcionarios del gobierno prometieron repetidamente subvenciones, descuentos y otros incentivos para atraer a los productores de cine extranjeros, aunque pocas producciones cinematográficas importantes aceptaron las ofertas. Algunas ciudades, como Jerusalén y Tel Aviv, crearon fondos municipales con la esperanza de atraer producciones cinematográficas extranjeras.
Israel fue un lugar de rodaje muy popular durante la década de 1980, especialmente para las películas de suspenso. Pero en las últimas décadas perdió popularidad debido a las ventajas más generosas que ofrecen otros países, como Jordania, Chipre y Túnez.
Incluso las películas que debieron rodarse en Israel se hicieron en otros lugares, como “Guerra Mundial Z” en 2013, que se filmó en Malta.
El dinero se distribuirá en el marco del plan cubriendo el 25% de los gastos de un equipo de rodaje extranjero.
Se espera que el plan aporte millones de shekels a la economía, mejore la imagen de Israel, impulse el turismo y cree puestos de trabajo.
