Un canal de la televisión israelí y la plataforma Disney+ participarán en el desarrollo de una miniserie sobre Hermine (Miep) Gies, la mujer holandesa que escondió durante dos años a Anna Frank y su familia en Amsterdam
Según reportó la revista estadounidense Deadline, la serie se llamará “A Small Light” y fue encargada por Disney + para ser emitida a través del canal National Geographic.
Del desarrollo del programa participarán la estadounidense ABC Signature y la israelí Keshet Studios. Esta última cuenta con una base de producción y grabación en Los Angeles.

En cuanto al guion, Deadline señaló que estará a cargo de Joan Rater y Tony Phelan. Estos dos experimentados escritores que trabajaron, entre otros éxitos de la televisión norteamericana, en “Grey’s Anatomy”.
La miniserie seguirá “a la veinteañera» Miep Gies. Cuando su jefe Otto Frank se acercó a ella y le pidió que escondiera a su familia de los nazis, no dudó en hacerlo. Esto resumió la revista estadounidense en su website.
Deadline caracterizó a Gies como “una heroína improbable” y recordó que falleció en el 2010 a la edad de 100 años.
“Incluso una secretaria, un ama de casa o un adolescente pueden encender una pequeña luz en una habitación oscura”
Y reveló que fue algo que la mujer dijo al final de su vida lo que inspiró el título de la serie que está preparando Disney.
“No me gusta que me llamen heroína, porque nadie debería pensar que tienes que ser especial para ayudar a los demás“. Esto afirmó alguna vez la mujer que salvó la vida de los Frank, al menos por dos años.
El reporte apuntó que el casting de los personajes principales, Gies, Jan Gies y Otto Frank, está en marcha. Está previsto que el rodaje comience en Europa en los próximos meses.
Miep fue quien, después de que los nazis finalmente atraparon a los Frank, encontró el diario de Anna en el escondite y lo mantuvo a salvo. Se lo entregó a Otto, el único sobreviviente de la familia. Lo hizo para que pudiera compartirlo más tarde con el mundo como uno de los relatos más poderosos del Holocausto.
Miep y su esposo, Jan Augustus Gies, fueron distinguidos en 1972 como Justos entre las Naciones. Es el más alto reconocimiento de Israel para aquellos no judíos que arriesgaron sus vidas y pertenencias para ayudar a los perseguidos por el nazismo.
