En el contexto de la Semana de la Amistad Guatemala e Israel, que comenzó el domingo en el país centroamericano, niños cantaron en hebreo en homenaje al Estado judío. Un programa del Ministerio de Educación guatemalteco produjo una emocionante versión de una tradicional canción israelí.
“Al Kol Eleh”, de Naomí Shemer, fue interpretada en hebreo por niños guatemaltecos del programa Pentagrama Aula Musical de Santiago Atitlán. Es una localidad del suroeste ubicada a orillas del lago Atitlán. Allí, con paisajes espectaculares de fondo, se filmó un video en el que los protagonistas lucen vestimentas típicas de los pueblos originarios de Guatemala.
Mati Cohen, embajador de Israel en Guatemala, explicó que la embajada eligió la canción. El Ministerio de Educación guatemalteco elevó la propuesta a las diferentes ciudades en las que se desarrolla este programa estatal, reportó Ynet. “Hubo 29 colegios que respondieron al desafío. Sin dudas este clip es el más emocionante, es conmovedor verlos con ropas nativas cantando en hebreo”, afirmó.

En el inicio de la Semana de la Amistad entre los países, celebrada en una fecha cercana al Día de la Independencia israelí, se izaron 5 mil banderas israelíes en todo Guatemala. El domingo se desarrolló un desfile en una de las principales avenidas de la capital.

Al evento asistieron miles de personas, la mayoría de ellas fieles de iglesias evangélicas. Alejandro Giammattei, presidente de Guatemala, publicó un video de felicitación a Israel por el 74° aniversario de su independencia que finalizó con la frase en hebreo Shalom Aleijem (“Que la paz sea con ustedes”).
Guatemala fue el primer país del mundo que siguió la postura estadounidense de reconocer a Jerusalem como capital de Israel en el año 2018. Dos días después de la apertura de la embajada estadounidense en Jerusalem, el entonces presidente guatemalteco Jimmy Morales hizo lo propio con la embajada guatemalteca. Lo hizo en un acto conjunto con el ex primer ministro Benjamín Netanyahu
