Irán y Hezbollah comenzaron a utilizar vuelos comerciales a Damasco y Beirut para introducir de contrabando componentes militares avanzados que se relacionan, entre otras cosas, con la producción de armas.
Según la información que pudo obtener Ynet, se trata de piezas relativamente pequeñas y en apariencia inocentes. Es por eso que son más fáciles de camuflar en un equipaje de un avión civil.
El objetivo de esta metodología de traslados es evitar que las agencias de inteligencia israelíes y occidentales conozcan las rutas de contrabando entre Irán y Hezbollah.
Las piezas viajan en equipajes de mano de agentes militares de Hezbollah. En ocasiones, para disimular más la maniobra, los vuelos de contrabando parten desde Teherán hacia un país europeo. Desde allí van en un vuelo de conexión hacia Damasco o Beirut.
La persona a cargo de esta ruta de contrabando es Sayad Radah Safi Al-Din, un alto operativo de Hezbollah. Es el hijo de Hashim Saffi Al-Din, presidente del consejo ejecutivo de la organización chiíta.
A su vez, Sayad Radah está vinculado a los iraníes porque está casado con la hija de Qasem Soleimani, el comandante de la Fuerza Quds de la Guardia Revolucionaria asesinado por Estados Unidos en enero de 2020.
El hombre vuela desde Irán a Líbano varias veces al mes para ver a su esposa. Sin embargo, sus viajes encubren el traslado de estos componentes.
Hashim explota su cargo en Hezbollah y sus conexiones con las aerolíneas comerciales para ejecutar el contrabando. Coordina la logística de la operación a través de una red de agentes vinculados a la oficina que lidera su padre. Lo hacen junto a personas vinculadas a la Guardia Revolucionaria iraní.

En varias ocasiones, en ataques atribuidos a Israel, fueron bombardeados sitios cercanos al aeropuerto internacional de Damasco. Estas ofensivas, que Jerusalén no reconoce ni niega, buscan evitar el establecimiento iraní en territorio sirio. De esta manera intentan frustrar el contrabando de armas avanzadas al grupo Hezbollah.
