El viernes 27 de mayo a las 19.00 hs, la Comunidad Dor Jadash realizará un homenaje al Rabino Rubén Saferstein Z’L. Será antes del Cabalat Shabat y se descubrirá una plaqueta,
Profunda tristeza causó en la comunidad judía argentina el fallecimiento del ex rabino de la comunidad Dor Jadash Ruben Saferstein Z’L. el 20 de enero de este año. Tres días antes había cumplido 64 años.
Se graduó de Rabino en 1992. Había comenzado su práctica rabínica desde la adolescencia: En una entrevista en Radio Jai, expresaba que “Arranqué a los 18 años en el templo de la calle Varela junto a Motti Maarabi”, recordó. Y contó que él creció en el seno de una familia “tradicionalista, no religiosa”, y que en un momento llegó a Betel, que ahí preparó su Bar Mitzvá, y que en ese lugar conoció al rabino Marshall Meyer que “influyó muchísimo” en su persona, que fue quien lo inspiró para seguir este camino. Luego, la vida lo llevó a Israel en donde se formó académicamente en Historia y Sociología. A su regreso a la Argentina, comenzó la carrera rabínica en el Seminario, que lo hizo retornar luego, a Israel para el final de la formación.
Sus funciones en las comunidades fueron numerosas, fue Seminarista en la escuela Wolfshon, también, en momentos en que era alumno del Seminario, los estudiantes debían ir a dirigir los servicios de Iamim Noraim adonde fueran designados. Estuvo una vez en Montevideo, otra, en la provincia Santa Fe, y otras veces, en comunidades del conurbano. “Ibamos por el sanguche y la bebida, no había un pago para esto”, recuerda divertido.

La “tarea fuerte” fue la que desarrolló en el templo de la calle Murillo, donde estuvo 24 años, “una tarea intensa”, que llegó a su fin en un momento, cuando comprendió que ya había sido una etapa terminada. Luego pasó por otras comunidades: Morón, Lanús, también en la lamentablemente cerrada Comunidad Jerusalem, y ahora como “rabino asistente” en la comunidad de Mataderos. Junto con eso, como la tarea rabínica es de hecho, docente, Ruben durante muchos años dio clases en el Seminario, y desde hace varios, es profesor de Historia en el Instituto Terciario de las escuelas ORT. Otro rol destacado de Ruben, y uno de los que más le interesa, es el de las conversiones al judaísmo: Fue Director del Departamento de Conversiones y Familia del Seminario Rabínico, hizo una tarea muy fuerte en Iquitos, Perú.
