Hace ya casi dos décadas, mi esposo sufrió una gran descompensación cardíaca en Israel. Habiendo sido un enfermo crónico fue empeorando, pero igual quiso viajar y también a su lugar natal en Alemania para recordar a sus seres queridos muertos en la Shoá, poner piedras en las tumbas de sus ancestros, caminar por la calle en la que nació, llegar a Israel para besar la tierra y tal vez para despedirse de todo y de todos ante su precaria salud.
Estuvo internado varios días y con un marcapaso para ayudar a su corazón a funcionar me pidió que, antes de viajar de regreso, ir al Muro de los Lamentos. Muy débil, pero siempre fuerte en sus convicciones y fe, allí fuimos. Hacía calor, fue un gran esfuerzo pero despacio llegamos. Le di un beso y con mi mirada lo seguí mientras ingresaba a la parte reservada a los hombres temiendo que se quebrara de emoción. Yo estaba del otro lado de la valla que separa a las mujeres a las que les está prohibido entrar. Mientras él avanzaba hacia el Muro para besarlo y apoyar su frente pidiendo a Dios lo que sentía, le dije a un señor que estaba por ingresar que por favor si le llegase a pasar algo mientras lo señalaba que lo ayudara, explicándole que había sido operado del corazón. Nunca me voy a olvidar la impotencia que sentí de no poder estar a su lado como siempre lo estuve. Ese día también yo también desnudé mi alma contra las prohibiciones de algo tan hermoso y noble como es tener un compañero de vida y no haber podido cuidarlo y compartir algo tan sagrado como es la pareja, el amor y rezar, poner un papelito y besar el Muro juntos.
Con mi mirada vi las palomas amándose en los huecos de las piedras del muro entre las plantas que brotan como el amor mientras abajo hombres y mujeres rezaban separados.
