Una integrante de la comunidad judía que estaba presentando el acto intentó impedir la acción de Braun, pero fue empujada a un lado por el diputado, quien acabó extinguiendo todas las llamas del candelabro.

Varios miembros de la comunidad judía polaca, incluyendo múltiples niños, recibieron invitación por la presidencia del Parlamento al acto conmemorativo.
El sorprendente acto de vandalismo provocó pánico y desató el caos en el edificio, que las autoridades evacuaron temporalmente. Minutos más tarde, Braun defendió sus acciones ante una Cámara legislativa indignada.
«Estoy restaurando un estado de normalidad, poniendo fin al triunfalismo satánico y racista. Este es el mensaje de esta festividad. Los invito a una discusión teológica», exclamó.

Por su parte, el presidente del Parlamento, Szymon Hołownia, ordenó la expulsión del diputado de la sesión y anunció que planea denunciarlo ante la Fiscalía.
Tras su expulsión, y lejos de mostrar arrepentimiento, Braun publicó en X: «¡No puede haber lugar para actos de culto racista, tribal, salvaje y talmúdico en las instalaciones del Sejm (nombre del Parlamento polaco) de la República de Polonia!».
En el pasado, el parlamentario también denunció el supuesto deseo de EE.UU. e Israel de convertir la Polonia católica en un «Estado Judío».
Este escándalo con el matafuegos apagando las velas de la menorá de Jánuca no es el primer del diputado polaco.
En junio de este año interrumpió una conferencia de Jan Grabowski, profesor de historia polaco-canadiense e investigador del Holocausto, agarró el micrófono y lo estampó contra el atril hasta destruirlo. «Un alemán en Varsovia no me va a decir que no debo dañar algo. ¡Fuera de Varsovia ahora!», exclamó.
