Tras una reunión urgente de la junta directiva y la asamblea general de París 2024, Gomis presentó su dimisión.
Dos días después del brutal ataque que cometió Hamás en Israel el 7 de octubre, en el que masacraron a unas 1.200 personas en medio de escenas de terrible violencia y secuestraron a 240, Gomis publicó brevemente un mensaje en su cuenta de Instagram mostrando mapas de Francia desde 1947, 1967 y 2023. La bandera tricolor que cubría el territorio francés fue sustituida lentamente por la bandera israelí, con el título que decía: “¿Qué harías en esta situación?”
Gomis recibió críticas y fuerte repudio por antisemitismo y de apoyar el ataque de Hamás, el ataque terrorista más mortífero en la historia de Israel, algo que la ahora ex embajadora de París 2024 negó rotundamente.

Los organizadores de los JJ.OO. dijeron en un comunicado que se le dio la oportunidad de aclarar su posición durante la reunión.
«Los miembros del Consejo de Administración y de la Asamblea General pudieron constatar que Emilie Gomis condenó los ataques del 7 de octubre en Israel, así como todas las formas de antisemitismo y discriminación, que son contrarias a sus valores. Emilie Gomis también lamentó su publicación y se disculpó», expresaron.
Además, afirmaron que la francesa, que ganó una medalla de plata para su país en los Juegos Olímpicos de 2012, ya no estaba en condiciones de continuar su misión porque su publicación en las redes sociales «contravenía su deber de neutralidad».
“Las acusaciones de antisemitismo que enfrento están en total contradicción con los valores que me inculcaron y que me enseñó el deporte”, había dicho Gomis en una publicación posterior en las redes sociales, disculpándose con “aquellos que se sintieron heridos”.
