Fue llevada al gueto de Békéscsaba en Hungría, junto a sus padres y hermano, con sólo 17 años. Más tarde la trasladaron a Auschwitz, donde su a padre y hermano de 15 años, los enviaron a las cámaras de gas.
Nació en Nyirmada, Hungría, el 31 de julio de 1926. Veronika logró sobrevivir a las duras condiciones del campo de concentración y la posterior “Marcha de la Muerte”. Una caminata durante kilómetros que los nazis obligaron a realizar a los desnutridos prisioneros que apenas quedaban en pie.

Se reencontró con su novio Ladislao Fried, quien también había logrado sobrevivir. Se casaron y en 1948 emigraron a Chile, donde se asentaron, haciendo de este país su propia patria y formando su propia familia.
El Museo Judío de Chile publicó un video para recordarla con unas palabras de su nieto Nicolás Massú, el ex-jugador de Tenis, Doble Campeón Olímpico en Atenas 2004 y actual Capitán de Copa Davis de Chile.
Massú es hijo de padre de origen libanés y madre judía. Sus abuelos maternos de origen húngaro, sobrevivientes del nazismo, que escaparon a Chile a la ciudad costera de Viña del Mar, donde también nacieron su madre y Nicolás mismo.
