Un oficial de la Policía Metropolitana de Londres amenazó con arrestar al jefe de una organización contra el antisemitismo por ser «abiertamente judío».

El policía impidiendo físicamente al director ejecutivo de la Campaña Contra el Antisemitismo, Gideon Falter, cruzar una calle por su apariencia (llevar una kipá) durante una marcha pro palestina.

Además, el oficial amenazó a Falter con arrestarlo alegando «una ruptura de la paz con todas estas otras personas». Además, le dijo que no estaba seguro en las calles de Londres.

Falter estuvo caminando por el centro de Londres en Shabat, con una kipá puesta y cargando un Sidur, cuando lo detuvieron en Aldwych y le dijeron que su presencia «contrariaría» a la multitud y provocaría que lo atacaran.

Falter le dijo al policía: «Solo soy un judío en Londres que intenta cruzar la calle».

El oficial respondió: “Usted es abiertamente judío. Esta es una marcha pro palestina. No te estoy acusando de nada, pero me preocupa la reacción ante tu presencia”.

Luego, lo amenazó con arrestarlo en caso de no abandonar el área. “Hay una unidad de personas [agentes de policía] aquí ahora y lo escoltarán fuera de esta área para que pueda continuar con sus asuntos, vaya a donde quiera libremente. O si decides quedarte, porque estás provocando una ruptura de la paz con todas estas otras personas, serás arrestado”, afirmó.

Un manifestante antiisraelí le dijo a Falter: “La policía no te va a ayudar en este escenario”, y amenazó con seguirlo y filmarlo.

Robert Largan, diputado de High Peak, Derbyshire, compartió el video y escribió: “Esto es más que espantoso”.

También Ian Austin, Miembro de la Cámara de los Lores, calificó las escenas de “completamente inaceptables”.

En una declaración en las redes sociales de la Campaña contra el Antisemitismo (CAA), Falter dijo que no culpaba a los agentes.

«Estos agentes están siendo puestos en posiciones imposibles semana tras semana. Se les pide que vigilen procesos enormes con muy pocas oficinas donde se exhibe todo tipo de criminalidad, desde el racismo hasta la glorificación del terrorismo e incluso la violencia», expresó.

Luego, Falter le pidió a sus seguidores que caminen con él durante otra manifestación masiva contra Israel en Londres el 27 de abril. “Ya es suficiente. Es hora de un cambio importante. Les pedimos, judíos o no, que defiendan la tolerancia y la decencia de las que este país está tan orgulloso, simplemente saliendo a caminar», afirmó.

Un portavoz de la Policía Metropolitana dijo: “Somos conscientes de este vídeo y reconocemos plenamente la preocupación que causó, no sólo a quienes aparecen, sino también a cualquiera que lo vea, y revisaremos las circunstancias. Siempre dijimos que reconocemos que el conflicto entre Israel y Hamás sigue siendo un tema de preocupación para muchos londinenses, y esto incluye las protestas y marchas periódicas en el centro de Londres. Toda persona tiene derecho a viajar con seguridad por la capital».

«Nos reuniremos y discutiremos con cualquiera que desee organizar una marcha o protesta antes del 27 de abril», concluyó.
