El profesor emérito Alon Gany, del Technion, la famosa universidad en la ciudad israelí de Haifa, fue distinguido con un prestigioso premio internacional por su trabajos sobre la propulsión de cohetes, un elemento crítico en el terreno de la exploración espacial.
Se trata del premio Wyld, otorgado por el American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics para reconocer logros sobresalientes en el desarrollo o aplicación de sistemas de propulsión de cohetes.
En el caso de Alon Gany, del Departamento de Ingeniería Aeroespacial del Technion, el premio fue concedido por sus «contribuciones pioneras» en «la investigación de propulsores metalizados, materiales energéticos, cohetes híbridos, estatorreactores y scramjets».
También reconoce su «excelencia sostenida en la educación de generaciones de expertos en propulsión».
«Este es un honor importante y estoy emocionado de recibir el premio», declaró el profesor Gany.
El profesor israelí afirmó que su vida académica está «dedicada a la investigación y docencia en el campo de la propulsión de cohetes en concreto, y de la propulsión aeronáutica de alta velocidad en general».
«Aprecio las contribuciones de cada estudiante, científico y miembro del equipo de ingeniería que trabajó conmigo a lo largo de los años», añadió Gany, quien destacó que el premio, otorgado por la principal sociedad aeronáutica del mundo, «refleja el más alto nivel de reconocimiento».

Compromiso con el futuro
Por su parte, la decana de la Facultad de Ingeniería Aeroespacial, la profesora Daniella Raveh, remarcó las «décadas de investigación innovadora» y el «compromiso con la formación de futuras generaciones de ingenieros y científicos aeroespaciales» de Gany.
El profesor Gany, dijo Raveh, «ayuda a nuestro departamento a lograr su misión de convertirse en un centro académico de clase mundial para la aeronáutica y la astronáutica, dedicado a crear, ampliar y compartir conocimientos en ciencias e ingeniería aeroespaciales».
Al dar la noticia del premio, voceros del Technion aseguraron que las contribuciones del profesor Gany siguen «dando forma al futuro de la propulsión aeroespacial e inspiran y educan a la próxima generación de ingenieros aeroespaciales».
