Rotterdam (Holanda) será la ciudad anfitriona de la 65ª edición del Festival de Eurovisión, que tendrá lugar en el martes 12, jueves 14 y sábado 16 de mayo de 2020. El anuncio lo ha hecho hoy Duncan Laurence, ganador de Eurovisión 2019, a través de un vídeo donde repitió su frase “The music first always” (La música, primero siempre).
Esta gran ciudad industrial situada en la conocida como Holanda Meridional se ha convertido finalmente en la sede del festival imponiéndose a Maastricht, la otra finalista de un largo proceso de selección en el que Ámsterdam ya habia anunciado que renunciaba a acoger el certamen al considerar que la ciudad ya tenía suficiente “masificación”. Otras localidades que han quedado fuera han sido Arnhem, Bolduque o Utrecht.
Además, el escenario donde actuarán los candidatos estará ubicado en el Ahoy Arena, un recinto con capacidad para más 16.000 personas y que ya albergó Eurovisión Junior en 2007. “Rotterdam ha mostrado un entusiasmo y compromiso fantásticos y cuenta con las instalaciones adecuadas para recibir delegaciones de más de 40 países el próximo mes de mayo”, ha asegurado Jon Ola Sand, productor ejecutivo del festival.
Rotterdam, que es la segunda ciudad más grande de Holanda, presentó una candidatura creativa y competente en todas las áreas requeridas para celebrar el festival. Además de contribuir económicamente para crear el mayor espectáculo musical de la televisión, la sede tiene que disponer de las instalaciones adecuadas para organizar los eventos paralelos como EuroVillage, EuroClub y la Ceremonia de Bienvenida .
Holanda se ganó el derecho de organizar la 65ª edición del festival cuando el cantante holandés Duncan Laurence ganó el evento de este año en Tel Aviv con su balada para piano «Arcade».
El Festival de la Canción de Eurovisión fue ganado por Israel en cuatro oportunidades: 1978, 1979, 1998 y 2018. El último galardón le valió la posibilidad de albergar el certamen en el país en 2019.
