Una gran Menorá (Janukiá) fue inaugurada en la ciudad israelí de Sderot, en un acto festivo al que asistieron el presidente de la Agencia Judía, Isaac Herzog, y el alcalde de Sderot, Alon David.
La Menorá de 12 metros de altura, la más grande de Israel, fue donada por la organización holandesa Christians for Israel (CVI) para mostrar solidaridad con los residentes de las ciudades cercanas a la frontera de Gaza.
Al evento también asistieron el rabino jefe holandés, Binyomin Jacobs, y el presidente de CVI, Pim van der Hoff, cuya organización también está comprometida, a través de Keren Hayesod, a apoyar los programas de la Agencia Judía para los residentes de la frontera de Gaza.
Herzog dijo en el evento que “esta enorme Janukiá que llegó a Sderot desde Holanda es un símbolo del tremendo apoyo que los residentes de la frontera de Gaza también reciben de amigos de Israel de todo el mundo. La solidaridad que los miembros de los cristianos de Israel querían expresar con Sderot y las comunidades circundantes es conmovedora. Esperemos que la luz de las velas traiga resiliencia y tranquilidad a todos los que viven aquí. La Agencia Judía continuará apoyando a los residentes de la frontera de Gaza, junto con nuestros socios de las Federaciones Judías de Norteamérica y Keren Hayesod”.
