El presidente electo de Estados Unidos, Joe Biden, eligió un jefe de Gabinete judío en su primer nombramiento importante en la Casa Blanca.

Se trata de Ron Klain, de 59 años, asistente del demócrata desde hace mucho tiempo. Es «el honor de toda una vida» estar al lado de Biden, afirmó tras la confirmación.

Biden dijo que había sido «invaluable» a lo largo de los años y elogió la «profunda y variada experiencia y capacidad de Klain para trabajar con personas de todo el espectro político».

Anteriormente se desempeñó en el mismo rol pero de dos vicepresidentes, Biden (Barack Obama) y Al Gore (Bill Clinton). También coordinó la respuesta de la administración Obama al brote de ébola en 2014 y 2015.

El ahora jefe de Gabinete judío está casado con la activista ambiental Monica Medina y tienen tres hijos juntos. Según The New York Times, hacen vida judía pero celebran Navidad por su madre.

Al crecer en Indiana, «no tener un árbol de Navidad era una parte muy importante de nuestra identidad judía en un lugar donde todos los demás lo tenían», afirmó Klain en 2007.
