Este año fue bisagra para Israel, fue uno de los mas intensos que se recuerdan. Honestamente me cuesta sintetizar tantos hechos en esta modesta columna. El año 2020 fue una verdadera maratón política que dudo que se vuelva a repetir (esperemos) en nuestras vidas.
Si pudiésemos resumir semejante año deberíamos hablar de sucesos tan amplios como enfrentamientos contra Hamas. Controvertidas nuevas elecciones en la Kneset (ya se avizoran unas nuevas). Crisis económica, una cuarentena fruto de una de las peores pandemias que se recuerdan y un numero récord de acuerdos de paz con países de Asia y África.
De esta selección de hechos recalco lo ultimo, los acuerdos de paz. En uno de los peores años de la modernidad, Israel logró acuerdos para el establecimiento de relaciones de cooperación diplomática, económica y científica con algunos países que hasta hace no muchos años negaban rotundamente cualquier tipo de acercamiento.

Me parece redundante hablar de lo obvios beneficios que esto acarrea. Para el ciudadano común pueden significar unas vacaciones de lujo en Dubai, para un militar una amenaza directa menos. Para las personas de negocios nuevas oportunidades. Pero resalto el significado que tiene para el Estado, lo cual se resume en el reconocimiento. Es indudablemente el capital mas valioso para un país que aun lucha por ser reconocido y respetado en la comunidad de naciones desde su fundación.
Ahora lo que todos nos preguntamos, ¿Qué nos deparará 2021?, como me gusta decir, no hago futurología, pero los indicios nos dicen que Israel podrá firmar acuerdos con nuevos países, el éxito en esta empresa va a estar signado sin dudas por el consenso y liderazgo en la Kneset, así también por el papel que decida jugar Estados Unidos en la región y específicamente que tanto interés tenga Joe Biden por seguir la linea actual.
Pero creo que para este 31 de diciembre lo mejor es pensar en el brindis y las vacaciones, la política no duerme, pero puede descansar un día.
