El gobierno de Canadá anunció el pasado miércoles que la provincia de Ontario brindará educación obligatoria sobre el Holocausto.
Luego de que trascendiera la noticia, Stephen Lecce, ministro de Educación local, señaló: “Estamos tomando medidas para contrarrestar el antisemitismo y el odio, porque aquellos que no aprenden de la historia están condenados a repetirla”.
Según Lecce, la medida es para ayudar a los jóvenes a comprender el significado del Holocausto, informó Israel National News.
Además de los alumnos, la provincia de Canadá trabajará con los docentes en el Colegio de Maestros de Ontario para acompañar la educación sobre el Holocausto.

Además, Noah Shack, vicepresidente del Centro para Israel y Asuntos Judíos (CIJA), dijo: “El antisemitismo va en aumento en Canadá y en todo el mundo, con un aumento alarmante de incidentes antisemitas en espacios donde los niños pasan su tiempo: en la escuela, en línea o durante actividades extracurriculares”.
“Educar a maestros y padres sobre cómo se manifiesta el antisemitismo, su impacto en los estudiantes y proporcionar herramientas para un aprendizaje significativo son esenciales para detener su propagación”, concluyó Shack.
Por su parte, Michael Mostyn, director ejecutivo de B’nai B’rith Canadá, dijo que “es un gran paso” y que la medida está “en la dirección correcta”.
“En este momento de la historia, con grandes cantidades de antisemitismo y un número cada vez menor de sobrevivientes del Holocausto, es esencial que nuestros jóvenes estudiantes sean conscientes de las atrocidades creadas por los nazis y estén armados con el conocimiento”, sentenció el representante de la organización judía.
