Indígenas de un pueblo del oeste de Guatemala decidieron expulsar a 32 familias que integran una comunidad de judíos ortodoxos por supuestos «actos de discriminación» y «atentar contra las costumbres ancestrales del lugar», según informó un líder del poblado. Desde hace semanas la comunidad de la zona es atacada y ahora procedieron a expulsarlos.
“Han discriminado nuestra cultura y nuestras prácticas como comunitarios”, dijo a los periodistas Pedro Vásquez, representante del Consejo de Ancianos de San Juan La Laguna, un pintoresco municipio a la orilla del paradisíaco Lago de Atitlán, unos 220 km al oeste de la capital guatemalteca.
Los dirigentes comunitarios realizaron la víspera una reunión donde acordaron la expulsión de la comunidad judía asentada hace seis años en el municipio, pero aún no han procedido con la medida.
De acuerdo con Vásquez, la comunidad de judíos ortodoxos, compuesta por unas 200 personas, ha “discriminado” las creencias religiosas y mayas de la región y “hay costumbres que (ellos) tratan de imponer”, por lo que pidió apoyo a las autoridades para proceder a la expulsión.
“Hacemos un llamado a la Procuraduría de los Derechos Humanos (PDH) y a las instituciones del Estado para que nos ayuden a que estas personas se retiren del municipio”, agregó el líder indígena.
Por su parte, el guatemalteco Misael Santos, converso al judaísmo porque su abuela fue judía, explicó al rotativo Prensa Libre que ante la decisión de los jerarcas indígenas están preparando detalles para que la salida sea pacífica, debido a que desde hace seis meses la comunidad judía es objeto de insultos verbales y racistas.
