El presidente turco, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, adivirtió hoy del riesgo de que estallen conflictos religiosos y étnicos en el Kurdistán iraquí si esta región autónoma se declara independiente tras el referéndum celebrado.
“Si los dirigentes del norte de Irak no enmiendan su error, pasarán a la Historia como impulsores de una guerra religiosa”, dijo el mandatario durante un discurso en Ankara, transmitido en directo por la cadena NTV.
Erdogan recordó que en el territorio reclamado por el Gobierno del Kurdistán viven, además de kurdos, numerosos colectivos étnicos y religiosos, como cristianos y yazidíes.
Erdogan denunció que “especialmente una gran parte de los habitantes turcomanos y árabes han sido borrados de los registros y forzados a trasladarse”.
“Es imposible de aceptar un referéndum realizado después de un proceso así”, dijo Erdogan, subrayando además las escasas opciones de éxito de un proyecto independentista.
Recordó que Kosovo ha sido reconocido por 114 países “y todavía no es un Estado”, mientras que el único país que reconocería a un Kurdistán independiente sería, según dice, Israel, “y el mundo es más que Israel”.
Erdogan repitió las amenazas de sanciones económicas, en especial en lo referente a la exportación del petróleo kurdo, que se realiza a través de territorio turco, y al cierre del paso fronterizo de Habur, por el que el Kurdistán iraquí importa la mayor parte de lo que consume.
“Si cerramos la válvula, este asunto se acaba. Todos sus ingresos vienen de ahí. Si no van los camiones al norte de Irak, ellos se quedarán sin nada que comer. ¿Cómo vais a pedir a Israel que os mande algo?”, preguntó el presidente turco.
Para impedir la independencia de este territorio de 8,5 millones de habitantes “están sobre la mesa todas las opciones, las medidas económicas y las militares, (el cierre de) los espacios aéreos y terrestres, todo se está evaluando ahora”, agregó.
