El primer ministro de Israel, Benjamín Netanyahu, se comunicó este miércoles con el presidente estadounidense Joe Biden. Es la primera vez desde que este asumió el cargo el pasado 20 de enero.

En un comunicado emitido por la Oficina del PM de Israel, se indicó que la conversación, que se alargó por aproximadamente una hora, “fue muy amistosa y cálida”, informó Enlace Judío.

“Los dos mandatarios enfatizaron la relación personal de de años entre ellos y dijeron que trabajarán juntos para continuar con el fortalecimiento de la firme alianza entre Israel y EE. UU.

“El presidente Biden y el primer ministro Netanyahu discutieron el avance de los acuerdos de paz [entre Israel y el mundo árabe], la amenaza iraní y los desafíos de la región, y acordaron continuar con las conversaciones entre ellos. El presidente también felicitó al primer ministro por su liderazgo en la lucha contra el coronavirus y los dos intercambiaron opiniones sobre las formas para lidiar con la pandemia”, concluyó el comunicado.

La Casa Blanca indicó en su parte oficial que Biden “reafirmó su historia personal y su compromiso inamovible con la seguridad de Israel, y expresó su intención de fortalecer todos los aspectos de la relación EE. UU.-Israel, incluida nuestra fuerte cooperación en defensa”.

Ambos líderes, de acuerdo con el comunicado norteamericano, discutieron “la importancia de la continúa consultación cercana en temas de seguridad regional, incluido Irán“.

Biden manifestó su respaldo a los acuerdos de normalización recientes entre Israel y países del mundo árabe. Subrayó la importancia de trabajar por promover la paz en la región, incluida la de los israelíes y palestinos.

“Juntos, afirmaron su interés compartido en continuar con la cooperación estratégica para confrontar los variados retos que enfrenta la región”, concluyó.

La ausencia de una llamada telefónica entre ambos mandatarios había levantado especulación en Israel desde hace varios días. Esto era a razón de que Biden se ha comunicado con otros líderes a nivel mundial desde que asumió la presidencia de EE. UU.

Se sospechó que esta tardanza sería consecuencia de la fractura entre las posturas sostenidas en algunos temas por ambos mandatarios. Incluso por la notoria inclinación que Netanyahu mantuvo hacia el expresidente Donald Trump. Esto fue por encima del tradicional bipartidismo que caracteriza a la política estadounidense con respecto a Israel.

La cuestión escaló al punto de que hace una semana el exembajador de Israel en la ONU, Danny Danon, atrajo los reflectores y comentarios. Sucedió luego de urgir vía Twitter a Biden a comunicarse con Netanyahu, publicando incluso un número de teléfono. Un día después, Danon lamentó el fraseo usado en el mensaje pero reconoció su responsabilidad.

No obstante, el martes la vocera de la Casa Blanca, Jen Psaki, aseguró que el primer líder de Medio Oriente con el que se comunicaría Biden sería Netanyahu. Esto fue sin precisar cuándo ocurriría la comunicación.

El propio Netanyahu en una entrevista otorgada al Canal 12 el lunes dijo no sentirse consternado en absoluto por ello y se dijo confiado en que Biden llamaría eventualmente, una idea que reiteró este miércoles a la estación Radio del Ejército, poco antes de la conversación con el presidente.
