Después de 10 horas de discursos de los estados miembros en el Consejo de Derechos Humanos de las Naciones Unidas, el Director de Relaciones Internacionales y Observador Permanente de la ONUG (Organización de las Naciones Unidas en Ginebra) del Centro Simon Wiesenthal, el Dr. Shimon Samuels, se encontró en una lamentable situación.

Elegido como el único miembro judío del Comité Directivo Internacional de la Conferencia Mundial contra el Racismo de la ONU (WCAR) de 2001, celebrada en Durban, Sudáfrica, Samuels fue expulsado a su llegada tras ser llamado en forma de burla «el judío del mundo».

Samuels y el rabino Abraham Cooper, decano asociado del Centro Simon Wiesenthal y Director de Acción Social Global, ambos voceros judíos en Durban, recibieron ataques físicos por los llamados delegados iraníes de las «ONG». En vísperas de Shabat, la pequeña sinagoga de la ciudad, por primera vez en más de 100 años, estaba sitiada por multitudes que la rodeaban blandiendo carteles de Hitler.

“Para los judíos, Durban recordaba a la Alemania nazi de la década de 1930. Hoy, en Ginebra, el 20° aniversario se calificó como ‘un hito significativo en la lucha contra el racismo’. De hecho, como en 2001, el 65% de los Estados miembros del Consejo de Derechos Humanos son dictaduras o antidemocráticos», señaló Samuels.

La WCAR de 2001, también conocida como Durban I, se llevó a cabo en el Centro de Convenciones Internacionales Durban, en Sudáfrica. La fecha fue del 31 agosto al 8 de septiembre, auspiciada por la ONU.

Entre varios asuntos polémicos, uno de los principales fue la compensación por la esclavitud y las acciones de Israel. Dos delegaciones, las de EE.UU. e Israel, se retiraron de la conferencia por objeciones al documento de borrador que equiparaba sionismo con racismo.

«En cada período de sesiones, el tema 4 informa sobre las violaciones de los derechos humanos en todos los países. Pero casi nunca sobre Irán, Siria, Turquía, China o Rusia, etc. Sin embargo, el artículo 7 debate los crímenes de Israel solo en Cisjordania, Gaza, Jerusalén y el Golán sirio. Al Estado de Israel lo tratan como ‘el judío entre las naciones'», expresó.

El Centro Wiesenthal, a su vez, informó que Malasia, Maldivas, Qatar, Sudáfrica, Turquía y un frente de ONG egipcias manifestaron su solidaridad incondicional con ‘Palestina’ y atacaron a Israel. Algunos incluso sugirieron que Israel bloqueó la entrega de vacunas a los palestinos.

Por su parte, el ministro de Relaciones Exteriores palestino, Riyad Al-Maliki, lanzó su diatriba: “Israel actúa con impunidad. Se aprovechó de la pandemia para fortalecer la ocupación, evitando que lleguen vacunas a Palestina, obligando a la gente al exilio, profanando lugares santos, deteniendo arbitrariamente a niños y destruyendo 54 escuelas. Ciertos estados desean eliminar el artículo 7, que es nuestra protección, y así barrer a las víctimas debajo de la alfombra. Son cómplices de Israel. La Alta Comisión debe actualizar la base de datos de empresas que tienen relaciones comerciales con asentamientos. Algunos países están refutando el fallo de la Corte Penal Internacional y deben revisar su posición. El CDH debe apoyar nuestras próximas elecciones para superar estos obstáculos, lograr la reconciliación nacional en Palestina con Jerusalén Oriental como su capital y el derecho al retorno de los refugiados”.

Siria, además, declaró: “Estamos bajo ocupación turca, estadounidense e israelí. Nuestra agua es cortada por Turquía. Israel en el Golán viola el derecho internacional, donde es inhumano con los ciudadanos sirios drusos”.

Por otra parte, el ministro de Relaciones Exteriores alemán, Heiko Maas, anunció una subvención de 11,5 millones de dólares a la HRC después de denunciar antisemitismo.

La ministra de Relaciones Exteriores de Suecia, Ann Cristin Linde, mencionó los planes para un Foro Internacional para Combatir el Antisemitismo el próximo otoño en Malmo, la ciudad más antisemita de Europa.

El canciller portugués, Augusto Santos Silva, anunció un compromiso con un Grupo de Trabajo de Durban.

Los estados miembros pasaron a los planes para Durban IV, la conmemoración de los 20 años de Durban I, que se celebrará en septiembre en la Asamblea General de la ONU en Nueva York. Durban II en Ginebra y III en Nueva York se inauguraron por el entonces presidente de Irán, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, un renombrado propagador de la enfermedad del odio a los judíos.

“El presidente sugirió que Durban IV debía reflejar el 75° aniversario de la Declaración Universal de Derechos Humanos, olvidando a su autor, René Cassin, un abogado judío que trabaja a la sombra del Holocausto”, señaló Samuels.

El secretario general de la ONU, António Guterres, mencionó el creciente antisemitismo.

La Alta Comisionada para los Derechos Humanos, Michelle Bachelet, destacó la “discriminación religiosa del antisemitismo y la islamofobia”.

Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, de ONU Mujeres: “Desde Durban, hace 20 años, existe una mayor necesidad de enfocarse en las mujeres de color, objetivo de abuso sexual, bajo estatus laboral, menos acceso a alta tecnología e igualdad de género”.

El Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director General de la Organización Mundial de la Salud, también se centró en las mujeres y las niñas como víctimas del Covid-19.

Gabriela Ramos, de la UNESCO, focalizó en los derechos de africanos, migrantes, indígenas y discapacitados, todos sujetos a discriminaciones. Y agregó la necesidad de «aprender del Holocausto, la esclavitud y el colonialismo».

Finalmente, la Unión Europea se comprometió a apoyar la DDPA (Declaración y Programa de Acción de Durban).

“La DDPA tendría que ser limpiada en lugar de ‘blanqueada’ para que los judíos no la vean como un ejercicio más de libelo de sangre y propaganda antisemita del odio”, concluyó Samuels.
