Kosovo abre su embajada en Jerusalén tras ser reconocido por Israel

Tras ser reconocido por Israel y entablar relaciones con ese país hace seis semanas, Kosovo inauguró este domingo su nueva embajada en Jerusalén. Así lo informó el Ministerio de Exteriores kosovar.

El citado ministerio anunció «oficialmente la apertura de la embajada de la República de Kosovo en Jerusalén». Lo hizo en un breve comunicado publicado en su cuenta oficial de Twitter. «La promesa dada en la Oficina Oval se ha cumplido finalmente», añadió.

El mensaje aludía así al acuerdo impulsado el año pasado por el expresidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, cuando Washington intervino como mediador en un pacto entre Kosovo y Serbia sobre las relaciones económicas de ambos países vecinos.

Al firmarse los documentos en Washington en septiembre, Trump anunció que Israel iba a reconocer la independencia de Kosovo, mientras que Pristina se comprometía a abrir una embajada en Jerusalén.

En otro comunicado, publicado por la agencia de noticias local Kossev, el Gobierno kosovar afirma que su embajada en Jerusalén «estará dedicada fuertemente al aumento de la cooperación bilateral y el fortalecimiento del perfil internacional del Estado de Kosovo».

Este país balcánico, de población mayoritariamente musulmana, se ha convertido así en el tercero del mundo en establecer en Jerusalén su embajada en Israel, después de Estados Unidos y Guatemala.

La República Checa y Hungría han optado por un camino intermedio abriendo en la Ciudad Santa sendas oficinas, dependientes de sus embajadas en Tel Aviv informó Aurora.

La legación kosovar fue inaugurada por su actual jefa, la encargada de negocios de Kosovo en Israel, Ines Demiri.

«Un momento verdaderamente orgulloso e histórico para las relaciones. ¡La República de Kosovo ha abierto hoy oficialmente su Embajada en Jerulasén!», escribió Ines Demiri, la encargada de negocios a.i. de Kosovo en Israel, en su cuenta de Twitter.

«El mayor honor de mi vida es tener esta oportunidad de abrir la Embajada y servir con orgullo a mi país en Israel». Eso añadió la diplomática.

El breve mensaje se acompaña en la red social de fotos que muestran la entrada del edificio de la embajada kosovar. En la imagen se ve con las banderas de los dos países.

Israel y Kosovo establecieron relaciones diplomáticas en una ceremonia virtual el pasado 1 de febrero. Allí se presentó la placa que reza «Embajada de Kosovo en Jerusalén».
