El grupo pro BDS que no permitió el desembarque del barco israelí

Cientos de manifestantes pro BDS impidieron la descarga de un barco israelí procedente de Asia en el puerto de Oakland (California).

La protesta fue patrocinada y organizada por el Centro de Recursos y Organización Árabe (AROC), que forma parte de la campaña de boicot, desinversión y sanciones (BDS) contra Israel en la zona de la bahía. El sindicato local de estibadores colaboró con quienes marcharon, ya que que se negó a descargar el barco.

El grupo BDS, que afirmó que “miles” acudieron a la protesta durante todo el viernes, elogió al sindicato International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 10, que, según dijo, “respetaron los seis piquetes comunitarios simultáneos durante los turnos de mañana y tarde, y no trabajó en el barco israelí”.

AROC, por su parte, afirmó en Facebook: “Sabiendo que no podía romper nuestro bloqueo ni la demostración de solidaridad de los trabajadores, en un movimiento dramático, ¡los miembros de la comunidad observaron cómo el barco que se aprovecha del apartheid israelí abandonaba el puerto de Oakland #BlockTheBoat #BDS”.

El Instituto Legal Zachor, que combate el BDS y las organizaciones antisemitas en los Estados Unidos, dijo a JNS que al negarse a descargar un barco con propiedad percibida como judía, los miembros del Local 10 del Sindicato Internacional de Muelles y Almacenes participaron en un “boicot secundario ilegal en violación de las normas de la Ley Nacional de Relaciones Laborales de larga data”.

Zachor, además, dijo que el boicot “lo promueve una organización extranjera” entre cuyos miembros se encuentran conocidos grupos terroristas (Hamás y FPLP).

“El Local 10 cooperó con el boicot racista a pesar de conocer su ilegalidad y su intención discriminatoria”, agregó.

El barco israelí, el ZIM Volans, pretendía originalmente desembarcar en Oakland la semana del 17 de mayo. Pero se desvió hacia Los Ángeles y en algún momento, por razones que todavía no se confirmaron, volvió a dirigirse a Oakland.

La última vez que un barco israelí intentó atracar en el puerto de Oakland fue en 2014. Manifestantes recibieron al ZIM Piraeus que amenazaron físicamente a los trabajadores del sindicato del almacén y bloquearon sus vehículos. Los protestantes consiguieron expulsar el barco del puerto.

Tras su éxito en Oakland, los activistas pro BDS llamaron a boicotear el 6 de julio al ZIM Tarragona, que tiene previsto desembarcar en el puerto de Nueva York y Nueva Jersey.
