Una encuesta nacional realizada por la ADL (Liga Antidifamación) a raíz de la reciente violencia entre Israel y Hamás encontró que tres cuartas partes de los judíos norteamericanos están más preocupados por el antisemitismo en Estados Unidos y en el extranjero, y el 60 % ha sido testigo de primera mano de antisemitismo a causa del conflicto en mayo.
La encuesta también reveló que el 40 % de los judíos estadounidenses están ahora más preocupados por su seguridad personal que antes. Asimismo, tres cuartas partes (75%) indicaron estar más preocupados que antes por el aumento del antisemitismo en otros países a raíz del conflicto.
“En torno al reciente conflicto en Israel y Gaza, se produjo un aumento significativo de incidentes antisemitas en Estados Unidos y en el extranjero.
Es comprensible que los judíos estadounidenses estén ahora más preocupados por la posibilidad de que la violencia en el extranjero se convierta en amenazas antisemitas. Aún más cerca de casa». As´lo expresó Jonathan Greenblatt, director general de la ADL. «Los ataques antisemitas que hemos presenciado en las calles y en las redes sociales en las últimas semanas están agobiando mucho en la comunidad judía estadounidense”.

Algunos de los resultados clave de la encuesta de la ADL son:
- Más del 40 % de los judíos estadounidenses encuestados indicaron que están «más preocupados por su seguridad personal» tras la violencia entre Israel y Hamás y el comprobado aumento de incidentes antisemitas en el país.
- La encuesta encontró que el 60 % de los judíos en Estados Unidos fueron testigos de comportamientos o comentarios que consideran antisemitas durante las semanas transcurridas desde el comienzo de la violencia hasta el final del período de la encuesta. - Más de la mitad de los judíos estadounidenses (53 %) dicen haber presenciado más conductas o comportamientos considerados antisemitas que antes del estallido de la violencia.
- El 18 % de los encuestados han visto una o más de sus relaciones personales verse afectadas por las conversaciones sobre la reciente violencia.
- Una abrumadora mayoría de los judíos estadounidenses quiere que los líderes federales y estatales hagan más para afrontar el reciente antisemitismo.
La encuesta también preguntó a los judíos estadounidenses qué tipo de expresiones son antisemitas. Dos tercios o más de los judíos estadounidenses consideraron que las siguientes situaciones eran probable o definitivamente antisemitas; Afirmar que Israel no debería existir como Estado judío (75 %); comparar las acciones de Israel con las de los nazis (70 %); protestar contra las acciones israelíes frente a una sinagoga estadounidense (67 %); referirse al sionismo como «racista» (61 %); pedir a las empresas y organizaciones que boicoteen, desinviertan o sancionen a Israel (56 %); llamar a Israel un Estado de apartheid (55 %).
Un reciente análisis del Centro sobre Extremismo de la ADL reveló que los incidentes antisemitas en Estados Unidos se duplicaron durante el conflicto militar de mayo de 2021 y sus consecuencias inmediatas en comparación con el mismo período de 2020. La ADL registró 251 incidentes entre el 11 de mayo y el final del mes, un aumento del 115 % en comparación con el mismo período de 2020. Los registros identificaron 11 agresiones violentas en mayo de 2021 y 190 casos de acoso a los judíos.

«Históricamente hemos visto un aumento de incidentes antisemitas cuando se producen disturbios o violencia entre Israel y grupos terroristas armados, pero este año el aumento fue particularmente dramático y violento», afirmó Greenblatt. «Esta actividad ha afectado no solo a las personas específicas que han sido blanco de los ataques: los judíos estadounidenses en general se sienten ahora menos seguros que antes y creen firmemente que nuestros líderes deben hacer más para prevenir nuevos incidentes».
La encuesta fue realizada por YouGov, una empresa líder en opinión pública y análisis de datos, en nombre de la ADL. Dicha encuesta, en la que participaron 576 adultos judíos estadounidenses mayores de 18 años (que conocían el conflicto actual entre israelíes y palestinos), se realizó en línea entre el 25 de mayo y el 1 de junio de 2021. La misma fue ponderada para reflejar la composición demográfica de los judíos en Estados Unidos. El margen de error para la muestra completa de encuestados es de más o menos 4 puntos porcentuales.
