El inmoral y mortal silencio del mundo sobre Hamás y Hezbollah

Al haber dejado que Israel se ocupe solo de los ataques de los grupos terroristas contra los civiles, la comunidad internacional se aseguró de que el conflicto en Oriente Medio continuará y se volverá más destructivo.

La reciente crisis en Israel fue inquietante en muchos sentidos. Si bien no es nada nuevo que Hamás lance cohetes sobre centros civiles israelíes, la mayor sofisticación de los cohetes y el angustioso estallido de violencia intercomunitaria en las ciudades israelíes se sumaron a los duros desafíos que enfrentó Israel en el conflicto con Hamás.

Sin duda, el comienzo del conflicto estuvo lleno de complejidad. Encontrar la causa que encendió el polvorín no es tarea fácil. ¿Fue la amenaza de un posible desalojo de los palestinos del barrio Sheikh Jarrah ante el Tribunal Supremo de Israel, o la incitación que surgió del día de Al Quds, o el crecimiento de los grupos extremistas judíos? En esta siempre explosiva situación, está claro que la crisis que enfrentó Israel fue más compleja que nunca.

La violencia y el odio manifiestos entre árabes y judíos en las calles de ciudades israelíes como Lod y Jaffe, entre otras, tienen mucha historia detrás. Dicha violencia debe ser condenada dondequiera que aparezca, pero también pone de manifiesto la necesidad de prestar atención a los numerosos retos sociales de Israel. Irónicamente, la sensación general en Israel —tanto entre judíos como árabes— era la de un mayor movimiento hacia la integración. Un símbolo de ello es el nuevo gobierno, cuya coalición incluye a un partido islámico árabe-israelí.

Lo que no es complejo es el asalto a civiles israelíes por parte de un grupo terrorista comprometido con la destrucción de Israel. En el caso de Gaza, Hamas lleva 15 años realizando este tipo de actividades terroristas. Lo que ha cambiado es el nivel de armamento y la habilidad que han obtenido con el apoyo de Irán.

Israel no tuvo más opción que defenderse del incesante ataque de miles y miles de misiles.

Con ayuda de Estados Unidos, Israel ha desarrollado el sistema Cúpula de Hierro para interceptar misiles, que ha salvado muchas vidas, al igual que las armas de precisión guiadas proporcionadas por Estados Unidos. Si la Cúpula de Hierro no hubiera estado funcionando, uno solo puede imaginar cuánto mayor podría haber sido la pérdida de vidas. Aun así, cientos de miles de israelíes vivieron miedo y trauma, al igual que los civiles inocentes de Gaza.

No podemos ignorar a todas las víctimas de este conflicto evitable. El número de muertos y las imágenes de sufrimiento en Gaza fueron realmente espeluznantes. La pérdida de inocentes vidas palestinas es una tragedia y debe ser lamentada.

Todo esto tiene un importante telón de fondo. Hezbollah, otra organización terrorista comprometida con la destrucción de Israel pero con vínculos aún más estrechos con la República Islámica de Irán, representa una amenaza mucho mayor para los civiles israelíes. Al ser un sustituto de Irán, Hezbollah ha podido acumular un enorme arsenal de misiles que pueden alcanzar zonas lejanas produciendo una devastación mucho mayor que cualquier cosa que pueda hacer Hamás.

Mientras Israel restableció la disuasión con Hamás tras el aluvión de misiles lanzados contra centros de población israelíes, una futura amenaza de Hezbollah está siempre en la mente de los líderes políticos y militares israelíes.

La gran pregunta en todos estos acontecimientos es ¿dónde está la comunidad internacional? Muchos se apresuran a condenar a Israel por supuestas violaciones de los derechos humanos pero, durante todos estos años, apenas se ha contemplado o emprendido alguna acción internacional para contener las amenazas procedentes de los grupos terroristas comprometidos con la destrucción de Israel y la acumulación de armas a través de los iraníes.

Este silencio internacional no solo es inmoral —se supone que todo el mundo entiende la amenaza que suponen los terroristas para todos nosotros— sino que deja solo a Israel para hacer frente a estos desafíos. Inevitablemente, conduce a la pérdida de vidas en ambos bandos porque nadie se tomó en serio las actividades destructivas que tienen lugar en las fronteras norte y sur de Israel.

Seamos claros: la respuesta necesaria para enfrentar a Hamás y Hezbollah no es lo mismo que abordar el conflicto palestino-israelí. Israelíes y palestinos tienen que volver a comprometerse seriamente, buscar un terreno común para resolver el conflicto. Llegar a un acuerdo y encontrar soluciones que conduzcan a dos estados para dos pueblos, alcanzando así la paz.

Por el contrario, la historia de Hamás y Hezbollah es la de negar la existencia de Israel y debe verse claramente bajo esa luz. Ya es hora de que el Consejo de Seguridad denuncie tanto la ideología como el terrorismo de ambos. Es hora de que la comunidad internacional impida la entrega de misiles a estos grupos terroristas. Es hora de que la comunidad internacional reconozca que ninguna sociedad puede tolerar que un grupo terrorista ataque deliberadamente a sus civiles.

De modo que la comunidad internacional debe poner fin a su inercia e indiferencia ante la violencia y el extremismo procedentes de estos reconocidos grupos terroristas.

En última instancia, el Estado judío, como todos los Estados de la Tierra, protegerá a su pueblo cuando sea objeto de ataques deliberados y caprichosos.
