Un fiscal búlgaro proporcionó pruebas detalladas al tribunal que manejaba la participación de Hezbollah en un atentado terrorista en el autobús de Burgas, en 2012. En el mismo murieron cinco israelíes  y el conductor de autobús búlgaro-musulmán. El tribunal se negó a aceptarlo, según informó The Jerusalem Post.

A pesar de la apelación del abogado de las víctimas israelíes, Yaki Rand, para convencer al tribunal de apelaciones de Bulgaria de que emita condenas, incluidos cargos de terrorismo contra Hezbollah; es probable que la justicia búlgara siga «durmiendo» el expediente.

En una ceremonia de aniversario de julio de 2019 para las víctimas, sus familias exigieron que el propio Hezbollah fuera acusado en el juicio búlgaro por terrorismo.
En su discurso, Kobi Price, uno de los miembros de la familia, señaló que, “hace tres años… cuatro años después del ataque, se abrió el juicio penal… En la acusación… sólo se imputaron a dos agresores”.
«Nosotros, las familias en duelo, pedimos al gobierno de Bulgaria que se eleve por encima de las estrechas consideraciones políticas y que agregue a la organización terrorista Hezbollah a la acusación sin demora», dijo Price.
Price continuó: “Sin Hezbollah, no hay moralidad en el juicio. Sin Hezbollah, el juicio es ineficaz. Sin Hezbollah, no hay justicia para las víctimas asesinadas ”.
Reiteró al Post el lunes que no estaba claro cuánta disuasión o justicia se podría lograr contra los atacantes si no se tocaba a Hezbollah como organización.
En enero de 2018, el Post reveló en exclusiva que la fiscalía estatal búlgara había decidido no acusar a Hezbollah como organización de estar involucrado en el ataque con bomba de 2012 en el aeropuerto de Burgas.
En cambio, el fiscal acusó a los dos hombres presuntamente involucrados en el ataque como si fueran terroristas o incluso delincuentes comunes que actuaron sin conexión con una organización. La palabra «Hezbollah» no aparece en la acusación.
Además, la acusación no mencionó delitos de terrorismo estándar como «actuar como parte de una organización terrorista» o conectar el delito de asesinato con el terrorismo, sino que se refirió simplemente a alterar el orden público.

Fuentes cercanas al caso dijeron al Post en ese momento que cuando el fiscal búlgaro se enfrentó a estas anomalías, afirmó que nadie le proporcionó pruebas que demostraran la participación de Hezbollah.
Esto contradecía directamente las pruebas que salieron a la luz inmediatamente después del ataque del ministro del Interior búlgaro, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, y señaló a Hezbollah como el culpable.
La investigación de Bulgaria sobre el atentado de Burgas incluso llevó a la UE a colocar al brazo armado de Hezbollah en su lista negra.
El partido gobernante en Bulgaria ha cambiado en numerosas ocasiones desde 2012 y algunos observadores dicen que la política obstaculizó el juicio.

Bulgaria envió órdenes de extradición al gobierno de Líbano con respecto a los dos agentes de Hezbollah que luego fueron acusados ​​del acto de terrorismo.
