El comité ejecutivo de la Agencia Judía para Israel pospuso este lunes por 2 meses la elección del próximo presidente de la organización, informó The Times of Israel.
La votación se había programado originalmente para el 24 de octubre. El nuevo plazo para la presentación de candidatos se ha extendido hasta el 17 de noviembre, mientras que un mes después se realizará una votación sobre el nuevo jefe. La contienda se vio estropeada después de que el favorito por el gobierno israelí, el ministro de Inteligencia Elazar Stern, abandonó la candidatura la semana pasada en medio de la controversia en la que se vio envuelto tras sugerir que en el pasado, como funcionario militar, ignoró denuncias anónimas por acoso sexual. Con Stern fuera de la contienda, la coalición está buscando otro candidato. Esto además representa una complicación más para el gobierno: Eli Avidar, del partido Yisrael Beitenu, estaba destinado a sustituir a Stern en el Ministerio de Inteligencia en cuanto este último llegara a la Agencia Judía. Avidar, que por el momento es un ministro sin cartera, ha dicho que no votará junto con la coalición hasta que le den el ministerio prometido, informó Enlace Judío. No está claro si otro ministro estaría dispuesto a postularse para el puesto de la AgenciaJudía y dejar espacio para Avidar, pero el ministro de la Diáspora, Najman Shai, sería el candidato más probable en este momento. Algunos candidatos expresaron su disgusto por la decisión de retrasar la votación. “Yo sigo en la carrera”, dijo el exlegislador y exembajador israelí en EE. UU., Michael Oren, aThe Times of Israel. “El pueblo judío se enfrenta a una crisis de dimensiones históricas, y ciertamente este no es el momento de oponerse. Con Stern fuera de la carrera, Lapid había enviado una carta a la junta de la Agencia Judíasolicitando que se retrasara la decisión. El órgano de gobierno consta de 10 personas: 5 miembros de la Organización Sionista Mundial, 3 representantes de las Federaciones Judías de América del Norte y 2 representantes de Keren Hayesod.
