Con tecnología 3D, reconstruyen en Israel mandíbula de soldado afectado por bala

En Israel, médicos utilizaron tecnología 3D para reconstruir la mandíbula de un soldado dos semanas después de que una bala impactó cerca del cerebro, los ojos y la lengua, informó The Times of Israel.

El oficial de 34 años, llamado capitán “Dalet” por motivos de seguridad, de acuerdo con la primera inicial hebrea de su nombre, fue uno de los dos soldados que resultaron gravemente heridos durante un operativo de las FDI cerca de Jenin en el la madrugada del 26 de septiembre.

Los médicos suelen reconstruir un lado de la cara cuando el otro está sano, pero en el caso de Dalet esto no fue posible, ya que ambos lados estaban afectados, informó Enlace Judío.

“En la mayoría de los casos, utilizamos las imágenes del lado sano para planear y reparar el lado lesionado, pero en este caso, ambos lados estaban lesionados”, explicó el profesor Adi Rajmiel, director del Departamento de Cirugía Oral y Maxilofacial del Centro Médico Rambam en Haifa.

Los médicos crearon modelos computarizados de su mandíbula en tercera dimensión y los imprimieron para preparar la compleja cirugía.

“Utilizamos un nuevo método que facilitó la operación con muy buenos resultados”, dijo Rajmiel. “Su rostro volverá a la normalidad, con la excepción de algunas cicatrices en la piel”.

Yossi, el padre del soldado dijo tras la cirugía que aunque ha estado muy estresado, el resultado ha sido “más que perfecto”y agradeció a todo el personal médico del hospital.

Rajmiel dijo que fue un milagro que la bala no alcanzó zonas vitales que podrían haber provocado la muerte inmediata de Dalet. Aun así, subrayó, la intervención quirúrgica fue muy compleja, debido a que había una fractura cerca de la cavidad del ojo.

“Una vez que los huesos del rostro se ven afectados, las vías respiratorias también lo están, y en este caso la bala impactó muy cerca del cerebro, los ojos y la lengua. Teníamos claro que, debido a la naturaleza de las lesiones faciales del capitán Dalet, tendríamos que hacer una reconstrucción anatómica completa de los huesos”.
