Declararon culpable al israelí Gilad Gil Pereg, el “hombre gato”, por los crímenes de su madre y su tía: le dieron prisión perpetua.

Una semana después del inicio del juicio oral, un jurado popular declaró este miércoles culpable por unanimidad al ingeniero electrónico israelí por los crímenes de Pyrhia Saroussy (madre) y Lily Pereg (tía), ocurridos en 2019 en Guaymallén, Mendoza.

Fue entonces la jueza técnica Laura Guajardo quien le pidió a Gil Pereg que se pusiera de pie para la lectura. Dos custodios ayudaron al detenido a levantarse.

Luego, fue breve al leer el texto donde lo declaraban culpable de los asesinatos. ”Nosotros, el Jurado, encontramos culpable por unanimidad por el homicidio agravado por el vínculo al señor Gilad Gil Pereg”, afirmó sobre el homicidio de la madre. También, tomaron la misma decisión con respecto al delito de homicidio simple agravado por el arma de fuego por el crimen de la tía.

Al finalizar la lectura, Guajardo le permitió tomar asiento nuevamente a Pereg, quien siguió mirando al piso todo el tiempo restante. No se lo escuchó maullar en ningún momento. Luego, la jueza les pidió a los integrantes del jurado que no revelen detalles del debate puertas adentro. Pidió privacidad. “De esta manera la integridad del sistema de jurado se ve preservada”, expresó.

A las 17.09, la jueza reanudó el debate para dictar sentencia. Fue breve. “Este tribunal falla: imponer a Gil Pereg la pena de prisión perpetua como autor penalmente responsable del delito de homicidio agravado por el vínculo en concurso real con homicidio simple agravado por el uso de arma de fuego”, dijo la magistrada sobre el «hombre gato». El detenido la miró fijo cuando leyó.

“Me están intentando culpar a la fuerza. Quieren decir que yo hice cosas que yo no hice… Es fácil usarme como un target. Por eso, apenas hice la denuncia de que desaparecieron mi mamá y mi tía, enseguida empezaron a buscar la forma para acusarme a mí de su desaparición. Por eso, me hicieron tantos allanamientos en casa”, fueron las últimas palabras de Pereg antes del veredicto.

“Nunca negamos que tiene una enfermedad, que padece una patología” pero “no es inimputable”, manifestó el fiscal Guzzo.

Para la defensa, a cargo de los abogados Maximiliano Legrand y Lautaro Brachetta, Pereg habló por voluntad propia e insistieron en que su cliente padece una condición psiquiátrica: pidieron la inimputabilidad. Mientras que la querella, representada por Claudia Vélez en nombre de la familia de las víctimas, solicitó un veredicto de culpabilidad.

Durante el debate, policías y funcionarios judiciales que participaron de los procedimientos lo recordaron como un hombre “coherente”, “colaborativo” e “inteligente”. “En ningún momento de esos días, mientras buscábamos a sus familiares, actuó como si fuera un gato”, señaló uno de los agentes.

Pero, quizá, el testimonio más contundente fue el de la psicóloga María Jimena Rivas. Se entrevista con Pereg en el Hospital Psiquiátrico El Sauce, donde está alojado, de lunes a viernes, entre una y dos horas diarias. Según su diagnóstico, padece parafrenia: un trastorno delirante crónico e irreversible que consiste en un delirio generalizado.

“Es una psicosis que puede producir inimputabilidad. Con tratamiento de por vida puede estar estable, pero es un delirio irreversible. No es normal”, amplió la profesional. Además, dijo que el imputado “tiene una estructura psicótica que puede alterar por momentos el juicio de la realidad”.

El crimen de la tía y la madre de Pereg ocurrió en enero de 2019, cuando ambas arribaron a Mendoza para visitar a Pereg. El hombre vivía con 37 gatos en un predio con una casa muy precaria y en estado de abandono. Ambas fueron vistas con vida por última vez el 12 de enero en la casa del acusado.

Fueron 14 días después que la Policía Científica encontró sus cuerpos mutilados y tapados con piedras y tierra en un sector de la casa de Pereg, quien, por su parte, quedó detenido y fue recién durante su estadía en la cárcel que mostró comportamientos extraños y aseguró ser “un gato”, lo que mantuvo en los casi dos años de encierro. Incluso, en la primera jornada del juicio se puso a maullar.
