Un tribunal israelí suspendió la subasta de sellos de tatuaje utilizados por los nazis en el campo de exterminio de Auschwitz. Fue tras la apelación de un grupo de sobrevivientes del Holocausto, informó Haaretz.

La casa de subastas Tzolman en Jerusalén puso a la venta los sellos originales de tatuajes de dígitos utilizados para marcar a los presos de Auschwitz.

Su sitio web los había considerado “el más impactante de los objetos del Holocausto”, con un valor de venta previsto de 30,000 a 40,000 dólares, contó Enlace Judío.

Las ofertas iniciales alcanzaron los 3,400 dólares antes de que el Tribunal de Distrito de Tel Aviv accedió a una petición de sobrevivientes para detener la venta a la espera de una audiencia el 16 de noviembre.

Más de 1.1 millones de personas, la mayoría de ellas judías, fueron exterminadas en Auschwitz, uno de los campos de la Alemania nazi en territorio polaco ocupado durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Fue el único campo que tatuó a los reclusos.

La venta, prevista originalmente para el 9 de noviembre, fue condenada por Yad Vashem, que la calificó de “moralmente inaceptable”.

“El lugar apropiado para estos artefactos históricos del periodo del Holocausto es Yad Vashem. Es el Centro Mundial de Conmemoración del Holocausto, donde pueden ser investigados a fondo, conservados por expertos y utilizados como testimonio histórico. Servirá para fines de investigación, educación y conmemoración”, dijo en un comunicado el presidente de Yad Vashem, Dani Dayan.

“El comercio de estos artículos es moralmente inaceptable y solo fomenta la proliferación de falsificaciones. Yad Vashem se opone a la venta e insta a centros de subastas y vendedores en línea a no vender estos artículos históricos del Holocausto”, enfatizó.

Por su parte, el Centro de Organizaciones de Sobrevivientes del Holocausto en Israel, presentó una petición ante el Tribunal de Distrito de Tel Aviv para congelar la venta.

“Un artículo tan perjudicial no puede tener dueño… Su venta es ilegal y va en contra de la doctrina de la decencia pública. Se trata de un objeto que no es propiedad privada, sino un monumento terrible que pertenece a todo el público. Sirve como prueba de los crímenes de los nazis y sus ayudantes”, escribió el abogado David Fohrer, de acuerdo a The Times of Israel.

Meir Tzolman, propietario de la casa de subastas y nieto de sobrevivientes del Holocausto, defendió la venta como una forma de garantizar que los sellos lleguen “a manos adecuadas”.

“Queremos aumentar la conscientización. Soy el último en subestimar o disminuir el valor del Holocausto. Quiero asegurarme de que el objeto llegue a las manos adecuadas y no desaparezca de las páginas de la historia”, dijo a la Radio del Ejército.

“El vendedor está decidido a vender como sea. Hemos recibido llamadas de decenas de personas con ofertas por este artículo para donarlo. Cada uno mencionó el nombre de un museo diferente relacionado con el Holocausto”.

Según Tzolman, solo se conocen tres conjuntos de sellos de este tipo en el mundo, siendo este el más grande. Los otros se encuentran en un museo militar de San Petersburgo y en Auschwitz.

El Memorial de Auschwitz en Polonia confirmó que las fotografías de los sellos parecen similares a las de su colección.

“El hecho mismo de que se pongan en subasta objetos históricos tan singulares, y no se entreguen a una institución que conmemora a las víctimas y educa sobre la tragedia de Auschwitz, merece las palabras de protesta y condena”, dijo el responsable de prensa del memorial, Pawel Sawicki.
